I blame the media.

You get the impression they believe people who live here actually like these guys.

BTW, is there any other school who has recurring dress-up fans that are singled out by broadcaster's cameramen and given regular air time?
Because, I can't think of any other school where I see the same guys week after week/year after year, and think, oh yeah, there's that fan again.

Well, there was this guy with his wig and John 23 sign:

I haven't seen him lately, but there was a time when he managed an end zone or behind home plate seat for every major sporting event so that he could proselytize. I think he was a farmer from Iowa.

I remember the sign. Seems like it was there forever. But, I don't recall ever seeing the guy.
