Buckeye autograph seekers, memorabilia collectors (all merged threads)

I have found a piece in an antique store. It is a cast iron replica of the 1922 Horse Shoe stadium....Im hoping it is a piece that commemorated the opening of the shoe...I have the Vice President of Athletic operations Gene Smith interested in finding this info for me. If anyone knows anything about this let me know...Gene Smith says this is a vey rare piece....My Avatar is a picture of it.
I think it's an ashtray. I have a newer one. Mine says "Ohio State" on the field. My Dad had one when I was younger also. I've never seen another one besides those two, and now that pic.

Does look like an ashtray from the rounded cutout atop the scoreboard on the open end, which would've been added for utility since the original scoreboard wasn't built in the open end until 1984. A tobacco pipe holder, perhaps?
Yeah that would make sense. I know that's what my Dad used his for. About ten years ago, I worked for a small fence company. A nephew of the owners used to hang out at the shop. He knew I was a huge Buckeye fan. One day, he brought one of these into the shop. Remembering it from way back, I kinda freaked out. He gave it to me. It's sitting on my fridge right now. I have no idea how old it is, but I love it.

I'm headed to Columbus for the Indiana game- my first time back in about 5 years (I'm super psyched, to say the least...). Are there any autograph opportunities on the day before or game day? Anybody have any luck with autographs?

Yes, I'm quoting you 3 years later. It is an ashtray. My Dad had one with his OSU memorabilia. It was red and had a green felt bottom. Now I will be on a quest next time I swing by there.

A friend gave me one about 15 years ago. Told me his dad had given it to him. According to my friend, his dad or grandfather (can't remember which), worked at a foundry when they produced the ashtray and everyone that worked there were either given one, or more likely, they took a few each for souvenirs

That thing was heavy and well-built, just like the Shoe. Probably came out around the early 70's. Sound about right?
