Spielman just said his "sources" tell him the Browns are trying to trade up to Miami's spot. Chris is well connected to Miami.

If this is true and we trade up one spot (AGAIN) and give up a pick in a deep, but not top-heavy draft...I will seriously consider abandoning all loyalty to any single NFL franchise and stick to just enjoying the games.

I'm sick of this crap. The smoke I see coming from the Browns camp had better be for a smokescreen and not from something they're puffing.

The possibility also exists that they are looking to acquire Miami's pick to trade it.... The old Trade up to trade down... its happened before... just not usually on purpose. (think Kyle Brady- or lack of Kyle Brady as it turned out.) If SF agrees to terms with Rodgers today... someone may really want Smith-- just as an example.

Nah-- It makes sense... William Green ain't worth a broke dick... If they trade up with the Dolphins, it won't be to give them picks... it will be for players. If you are the Dolphins, you can get William Green, drop a spot and then either trade it or take Alex Smith... because they'll assume/stipulate that the Browns will trade it to Washington so they can take Edwards at 2. If you are the Browns, Will Green is just dead weight eating salary anyway... what are you going to get for him otherwise... Magic Beans?

That's fine if it's a trade for more picks, but if it's a trade so we can get Braylon, then I refer you to my previous post.

I would absolutely agree, if that were the case... but if you're Miami... you make the deal without thinking about it.... They have as many needs as the Browns, if they stick at 2.. they get Alex Smith... who I think they are very interested in... but would like to get more numbers as well... But if you can get Green and only drop one spot... big Need "addressed" (if you wnat to call it that) and they can still get Smith (or go down again)

I'd give it a .00000000000000000000001% chance this happens. No way, no how. Won't happen.
Total agreement with Goofy. First off consider the source. Secondly any rumor you hear this close to the draft is 99.9999999% smokescreen. Thirdly my buddies TV won't be able to survive another one spot trade up from the Browns. :hatepc:

Well-- the only thing I'm going to say is... like every year... the execs start to get antsy... Minnesota and Washington want to MOVE.... so savage is either going to need to get in on this stuff or he's going to have to get out of the fucking way.... Anyhow.. the Dolphins just got a 2 for Surtain, so they are now in the Shaun Alexander/Edge sweepstakes... so that's going to obviously impact the Will Green Scenario.

Don't worry, Savage isn't going to trade a pick to move up.. it will be a player.

I mean really- all spring its been "no superstars in the draft" and now, its all Braylon this BMW that...

Christ, those guys would have been lucky to be in the top 10 last year....

If the browns can move up one spot at the cost of William Green, I say go for it. Green is the 3rd string back on this team and pretty much dead weight. Even if you have to swap out later round picks with the fins (shit, they're pretty much already doing that) it would be worth it, IF ....

you are phil savage, and you have smith and edwards well above anyone else on your draft board. this could very well be the case considering the browns needs and the talent at the top of this years draft.

Think about what the browns need:
QB
D-Line
LB
CB
WR
... and probably more

Even if they trade down, do you really think they could fill ALL these holes with high quality players in one draft? Even the most optimistic browns fan would say the team is at least a season away from being super bowl contenders.

As long as we can bring in 3 legitimate impact players who will start/challenge for starting spot and legitimately fit into our scheme and have the talent to still be on the roster in 3-4 years, I'll be happy. If we can bring in 4 starters, I'll be hysterical.

If the browns don't trade down, it won't make this a bad draft, jus the same as if they trade up one spot for a player or two won't make this a bad draft ... as long as savage ends up getting the guys he wanted.

...but at this point, who really knows what the hell is going on with these execs anyway.

Bottom Line, 3 starters + QB of future + special teams Crennel-type-guys in the late rounds = great draft. They can do at least this much.

EDIT: ha! after re-reading my post, it looks like all I'm really saying is "please don't totally fuck this up, savage ... just make smart picks in the first 3 rounds, and if you hit on #2 or day 2, great."

Just shows what being a browns fan since 99 will do to you.

After thinking about this for a while, I've changed my mind back to a definite HELLLL NO! For anything like this going down.

Even if Green is the third string runningback, I wouldn't classify him as dead weight. His contract is heavily incentive based. At third string the Browns won't be paying him that much to be extra insurance to Droughns and Suggs. Suggs is prone to injury, and Droughns was hurt last year too. I don't see the point in moving up a pick if we can make the same deal without giving up anything. Either we don't make the trade, Green stays, Miami takes Smith, and we trade from #3. Or, we do make the trade, lose Green, make the same trade that we would've at #3, and Miami still takes Smith. Pretty sure we're gettin' screwed with scenario #2.
