Browns at Steelers(-9.5)

On Lewis's fumble, I wondered when the refs were going to blow that play dead. The pile must have moved 5 yards before the fumble occurred. That fumble was probably the turning point of the game.

It was a good call. Lewis kept pushing for yards, and you have to give the RB an opportunity to get a couple more. Harrison made a good play and hurt, but good call by the officials.

I do not blame Dawson for the missed FG. If he was kicking into a breeze that kick probably would have been good. It was dead on.

Yeah, but I do blame the coaching staff for not recognizing that a 52-yard field goal wasn't going to work. With 11 seconds, they should have tried a quick out pattern to Winslow, Edwards or Jurevicious.

Finally and probably most controversial is that while DA throws the long ball very nicely, he seems to have problems throwing the 5-10 yard routes accurately. Even though I am happy with the Brown's record, I would like B. Q. to see some action.

Insane. Anderson IS the reason this team is 5-4. If Brady Quinn had done what Derek has done up to this point, people in Cleveland would be crowning his ass right now. DA is 24 years old. He's got great size, a strong arm, and a good connection with our playmakers. PLUS, WE'RE IN A PLAYOFF RUN HERE. Why, after one game, would you fuck with a good thing?

I think it is also time for Willie to see less playing time. He is reminding me of Washington and I think Romeo almost plays him because he thinks he owes him something for coming from New England. He whiffed on Ben a couple times and provides no pass rush at all.

Agreed. If he ran a 40, I'm not sure he'd break 5.0 right now.

Why would Romeo challenge that last call if he knew it was going to cost him two timeouts especially when every play is reviewed in the last five minutes. The chances of winning that review was slim, at best, and it might have cost the Browns the game.

Exactly the reason why Romeo needs to be canned. You hire a headcoach to make those difficult decisions throughout the course of a game. How many people trust Romeo right now with a critical decision?

My hind sight is always perfect...
but today would have been interesting to have Quinn in the second half...
He can complete 5 yard passes...

Why can't people accept that we finally have a competent quarterback?

You always want more. When Couch led the Browns to the playoffs in 2001, everbody was ready to dump him because Holcomb had one good game. So we fucking shit on Couch, running him out of town, ruining his career.

So let's do the same thing to DA for a guy NO ONE IN THE NFL WANTED. Stop dreaming about what Brady Quinn could be and be excited about what we have out there right now. 5-4, and a chance at making the playoffs.

Yeah, maybe. It's been a rough weekend. It doesn't excuse two obvious penalties not called, and a questionable holding call made that changed field position by close to 30 yards

The holding calls I pointed out are very obvious though...it isn't as though I just saw it and am bitching..both times, players got up off the ground waving their hands at the official looking for a call

One resulted in a long TD run, the other gave Pitt 1st and goal at the 5 and it was on a 3rd down

Whatever, as the saying goes, holding can be called on every play

I guess today, it was just on Cleveland

There were plenty of no calls for the steelers too, thats the thing about football, we both saw the things that should have been called.

The browns were up 21-9 at halftime, the refs didn't give the steelers the rest of those points

I'm sure that there were missed calls both ways, It's just frustrating when the most obvious holds of the game go unnoticed....I wish a youtube clip would come out just to show how bad it truly was

Again my frustration is those non-calls essentially led to 14 Pitt points, and the holding against Dinkins was very questionable on Cribbs' last return

Maybe I'm just bitching too much, which would be a fair statement, but mostly I'm just sick of crappy officiating

P.S., if you saw the Giants-Cowboys game, wha'td you think of their two holding calls that were called and cost them 14 points? It's pretty unbelievable what is acceptable in one game, won't fly for shit in another, and if you saw the final score you'd probably just assume the Cowboys pretty much dominated....One looked like a clean block which sprung a kick-off return, and the other a 315 LB guard gets slapped with a hold behind the play clearing Roy Williams out. His hands were outside the numbers but it didn't look like he was grabbing much. Aikman thought it was a good call, but that doesn't mean much. Twice Cleveland defenders get behind Pitts OT and he turns around and horse collars them to prevent a sack or QB hurry, and in one case leads to a 20 yard Big Ben TD run, and on the other one a converted 3rd and 9 inside the 20 to extend a drive.

Anywyas, it'd just be nice to see some consistency across the league, and college for that matter. Someone on the Buckeyes got tackled on Saturday without drawing the call, so what happens, on the very next play the same player tackles Gholston but it was called the second time. I wonder how many times he got away with it though, when no one was watching?

I'm one of the dummies that wanted Frye... and never been a fan of Anderson... because I never trusted you could count on him... and BTW, I liked Couch

I'm still not ready to say DA is the quarterback of the future for this franchise. But he very well could be. You have to admit that he does have a knack for coming from behind.

You have to continue to allow DA as the starter until or unless he starts showing one way or another whether he can lead this team on a consistent basis. I think once he shows that, the Browns will make a move on Quinn one way or the other.

But it's far to early to write off a 6'6" quarterback with a strong arm and a winner's mentality for an unknown commodity that may just very well have his best value on the trading block as an unknown.

His future will be one year. This year. He is an UFA and will be gone after this year if we can find someone who is willing to give up a first round draft choice for him after he signs his tender offer.

B. Q. will be the starting QB next year. Anderson will not be assigned to a long-term deal. We have other needs for that money--defense.

He's a restricted free agent.

I don't know if people have figured it out yet, but quarterback is the most important position in football. It's so hard, and too many teams (including the Browns) have found out, to find a competent quarterback to lead your offense. If the Browns let Derek Anderson go and he succeeds (very possible), while keeping Brady Quinn and he flops (very possible), then there's going to be a shitstorm the likes of which even Jim Paxson can't possibly imagine.

Cleveland fans amaze me. After the first Steelers game, we were driving an old broken-down Dodge that not even Al Bundy would have driven. Now, we're driving a new four-door Saturn SUV. But people seem to think that there's some sort of BMV or Mercedes sitting on the bench waiting to be driven. There's not. Unless Brady Quinn is the next Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre or Carson Palmer (and he's not), you stick with Derek Anderson.
