Curious as to what No D fans think of their coach. Both his team's preparation AND his sideline demeanor.

search for all the post from UTOSU ... you'll read the following "Brian Kelly is the 2nd coming of Tim Tebow and can do no wrong... Tressel & OSU are the son's and daughters of Satan and should be burned at the stake...

oh and remember kiddos, background* check everyone you meet"

*UTOSU is currently offering discounted background checks, since he does one on everyone he meets he gets them at a discount and wants to pass it along to you

YSU, regarding the team prep (as much as it pains me), I don't think the Bulls win that game but 3 out of 10. The 14 point swing on that fumble recovery for a TD was huge, and I would not write the Irish off just yet as bust. I'm hoping for some team chemistry implosion before I get my hopes up.

I like that he is intense and has a high level of expectation from his players. However, he needs to calm down or he is doing to have an aneurism. Pick your battles Brian.
I'm not the biggest fan of the spread but if he can get it to work I am all for it. He needs to work on getting better personnel for it though which will take another year or two.
He is not defensive minded which is a concern, but he had a great recruiting class last year as far as defensive lineman are concerned. Hopefully Bob Diaco (defensive coordinator) can get a lot out of these guys and not have the corners play 5 yards off the guys they cover. That was sickening to watch.
I don't really have a problem with his preparation too much yet. Yes, we lost an embarrassing game to USF, but I don't think it was because of preparation but rather because of execution and untimely penalties. Aside from naming Crist the starter which led to a pick in the endzone, I think that other decisions he has made were good. The other turnovers were due to poor decisions (Jones not even looking for a pass, Riddick muffs a punt, Rees' bad pass in the fourth) and good play by the other team (ripping the ball out on the goal line).
Bottom line is that they lost because they had 3 turnovers inside the 10 yard line and a missed field goal from 30 yards. It was a horrible game but there were some good things. I do like Kelly but he needs to calm down a little bit on the sidelines. If I was a parent of a recruit and saw that on Saturday, there is no way I would send my kid to play for him.
I actually like our chances on Saturday against Michigan. If he don't make stupid mistakes I think we can win. We just need to hold onto the ball and stop making stupid penalties.

I would like to welcome Brian Kelly to the "Bo Pelini Anger Mis-Management Trade Show and Expo - sponsored by Butterfinger Candy Bars, Red Bull Energy Drinks and The Woody Hayes Foundation".

It's a genuine shame that Nebraska and Notre Dame don't play this year.

well if i listen to the writers and the talking heads.. .this was uncharacteristic.

Stewie Mandel from SI

He is right about the overachieving QB... but he's way off base on the "picture of cool"

Agreed. Mandel's exposed himself as not paying much attention to Brian Kelly by making that statement. I haven't seen many ND or UC games in the past few seasons, and these antics by Kelly are old hat as far as I'm even concerned.

I don't understand this. Kelly acts like a jerk on the sidelines, so you root for UM? UM's coaching staff has tried to antagonize OSU, if you haven't noticed.

Go ND.

Sideline demeanor doesn't bug me. Some coaches are mellow and teach with patience, some will get in your face and make sure you hear them the first time to avoid repeating the same mistake. Lou, little guy that he is, would often grab a guy by the facemask and pull him down to his level for an earful. You see both sides of the coin in high school, I always thought it was acceptable. Sure, you don't like getting yelled at, but getting an earful in practice or in a game sometimes focuses you more or prevents the same mistakes. Personally I was a little laxed in practices and gave 110% in games. My coach didn't care for my practice attitude though and let me know it once, and it ended up making me better.

Team preparation, Kelly falls waaaaay short though. If this was the first time Kelly fell short on preparation I would understand, but unfortunately he has done this before. Last year when Crist got knocked out for half of the game at Michigan, Kelly paraded out 2 different QBs as replacements and neither had any grasp of the offense or could do better than 3 and out really. He didn't make that mistake again as Rees was prepared by the time Crist went out in the Tulsa game again, but the oversite was embarrassing and inevitabely led to the Michigan loss because of an easy pick 6 thrown by one of the backups. Oddly enough Kelly said the team was the most focused in summer camp than any other he had coached previously, so it's interesting that they were the most mistake prone.

It's going to be fun watching Rich Rod Part Deux.

Bo would chew Kelly's leg off at the hip then show him the bloody stump.

I am so glad that another coach is in the news because of 'anger management' issues than Bo. I mean, after Bo underwent the Ludovico Technique in the offseason, he's been fine...
