Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

I misinterpreted from the reports last night that Kelly did not meet with his team. It appears that he did. That is all I was looking for.

Now I must find some other reason to hate him.

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that he didn't meet with the team until after the banquet. By that time most of the players and everyone else had already heard the news.

I had ESPN radio on as I drove home last night, and Doug Gottlieb had the nerve to say Kelly had to prove he could recruit nationally at ND not just in Ohio which he has dominated.

Wikipedia:

During Gottlieb's freshman year at Notre Dame, he stole credit cards from a roommate and fraudulently charged over $900 to those cards. Subsequently, he was kicked off the Notre Dame basketball team and eventually convicted of misdemeanor fraud.

Oh and when I had his show on the other day he fessed up to wearing his shorts backwards during a basketball game while playing for Oklahoma State. Needless to say, he's not the sharpest crayon in the box.

Out of curiosity, because I don't remember...but what did JT do when he left YSU?
Kicked ass and took names.

A feature piece? No, but a simple press conference is the least he could do, 07. It's the stand-up thing to do, unless you have no class & respect for the town & program you are leaving.

Why is it that if Kelly doesn't have a press conference in Cincinnati, then he has no class and no respect for the town and program he's leaving? I'm serious here--I don't see the argument.

If it makes you feel better, I wanted to watch the Bearcats get trampled by the Gators while Brian Kelly was the coach.

Now I feel bad for the lil Bearcubs and I'll be rooting for them over the Gators (not that it will matter).

I guess I just didn't like Brian Kelly. Weird.

Doesn't the team or city deserve some heads up before they read it on ESPN?

To be fair, once the contract is signed can you have a presser quicker than someone leaks the story and its on the ESPN crawler?

I don't get the sense Kelly was real worried about it mind you but I don't think a coach who was actually trying to keep it quiet before he told his team and had the local presser could do so.

You don't restrict media access inside the banquet only allowing them to talk to the team from 5:00-6:00, then only sending out your players to deal with the questions.

Lost our DC. Lost the receivers coach. Urban looking for staff right now. Not moving tickets at all after everyone paid big bucks for Atlanta tix last week. Numerous players looking to go pro and not wanting to get hurt practicing too hard.

Man, this has a bad feel to it. Hope I'm wrong. I totally get the Bama mindset now. It is like the Sugar Bowl is a huge disappointment

Add to this the fact UC's players are in full blown us against the world mode now. I don't think the rest of the country understands how much of a soul crushing defeat that SEC CG was for the Gator team. There is no redemption in their eyes no matter what happens in the Sugar Bowl. Everything they worked for is gone, their season is over. It was repeat NC or bust and they busted.

How many times have we seen a favorite come out flat and get beat by a fired up underdog in Bowl games? UC could in no way shape or form handle UF's "A" Game but I highly doubt they see anything resembling that.

Wolverine316....we actually agree.

I like this hire for ND. Can't wait to whooop his ass in South Bend next year. ND hasn't had a good defense in how many year?s??? (not that Michigan has...but that's another story).

Kelly is the flavor of the month and I'm happy as hell we get to play him every year. There were a ton of people that wanted him here at Michigan (not me) and now we get a chance to whoooop his ass (did I already mention this....).

The division between the Rich Rod supporters and the Rich Rod bashers/Carr supporters is amazing and has turned this place upside down.

As many have said, Kelly is the popular hire. I remember the first thing the ND AD said was that he wanted a coach with a defensive mind. Then he goes and hired Kelly. You'll see the same thing from ND for years to come - All offense, no defense.

Yeah, I think you might have mentioned it before, but thanks for the reminder. I agree with you on BK. I love his coaching pedigree, but I really think that ND made a mistake here. Kelly is a "good" hire, but ND needed a "great" hire. There are legitimate concerns about his defensive chops and his ability to recruit nationally. Maybe Swarbrick decided that, in light of Clausen & Tate leaving, they will need an offensve genius to make The Irish competitive for the next two years.

This is all hilarious on multiple levels...

If the team knew and the media rushed to leak the news before Kelly could announce anything formally, I don't think we'd be having this discussion. It just gets lumped together since none of them were notified first.

It's not like it was a big surprise to anyone involved, be upfront about what you're doing, tell them you'll let them know once it happens, do so, and graciously move on. At the very least, have some grad assistants forward a mass text/email from him letting them know.
