Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

I get it. I do. ND dangled the irresistible trinket in front of BK & he grabbed it. How could he pass it up? Just like I get it that all those cocktail waitresses couldn't find a reason to pass up Tiger. I'm also inclined to feel that there is about the same level of integrity operating in both situations. I understand BK is not the first (or the second) coach to treat his team this way. I still hate it when they do it. What a shabby thing to do to a bunch of kids who played their hearts out for you all year. It's three-and-a-half weeks...3-1/2 lousy WEEKS 'til the Sugar Bowl. BK couldn't stay that long to finish the job he started? ND couldn't survive without him for that little span of time?

If Kelly stuck around for a humiliating loss in the Sugar Bowl it would only decrease his value. Besides, his departure gives UC a perfect excuse when the inevitable happens in Nawlins.

I don't have a problem with Kelly taking the job or taking it now. We all have to manage our careers and in CFB this is the time when many key openings occur. ND has to worry about recruiting and this is a critical time for that as well. Nor is it reasonable to ask ND to wait 4 weeks for an answer or to get their answer and ask Kelly to sit on it (the press wont let that happen in any case).

The question is how you handle it. As mentioned earlier, Dantonio did it right. Doing it right may be difficult, but it is not complicated.

Agree. I do wish there was a way to ensure teams finished the bowls with the coaches that got them there, though given the small window between bowls and NLOID that's nigh unto impossible. Takes some of the luster off the bowl season, though.

I'd like to see more coaches really showing respect to the kids that helped get them to the next level. Or ND... whatever. :p

One of the more jarring differences between our coach and others around the NCAA seems to be the degree to which they put themselves front and center as opposed to the kids, the team, school tradition, the next game, etc. We're so lucky in so many ways it's kind of amazing to stop and think about it.

Not to confuse this with the seventeen other threads about playoffs and mid-majors, but this also makes a "championship" difficult: What if UC had backed into a game against Alabama? Does Kelly still go to South Bend (I think so)? Does he coach in the game (Pelini did, but who knows)? Would it matter (Coach Stewart don't think so)?

Sorry- just wanted more brownie points for agreeing with Deety.

Probably should have multi-quoted this...

And why is it that a coach can jump ship with no repercussions, but the student athletes that committed to him and the institution can't do so as easily?

Back to the regularly scheduled programming... Mich1gAAn sucks.

That said, this is all happening fast. Details on the nature of his exit may change over the next day or so.

Just like the nature of his hiring changed from day to day. I'm interviewing, Harbaugh is not interviewing, I'm not interviewing, never talked to them, I'll talk to them tomorrow, Edsell is a hot candidate, I am taking the job.

Wow, looks like the players took it tough. They're speaking out more than WVU players did after RR left.

"We don't really care what he has to say anymore," tight end Ben Guidugli said after a post-banquet team meeting. "He can go talk to his Notre Dame team. We're ready to move forward with whoever wants to move forward with us. He's not on the boat anymore, so we've got to continue on."

Several players, including loquacious standout receiver Mardy Gilyard, left the team meeting early. Gilyard was in the room for less than a minute. "I didn't want to hear it," he said. "I'm fairly disgusted with the situation -- him letting it last this long. ... Everybody and their mamma knew what was going on. I feel like he did our team an injustice. Hopefully he'll pack his things up and get to South Bend in a hurry."

While Gilyard spoke to the media about the upcoming game, defensive lineman Alex Daniels also walked out on the meeting.

"We want to make sure (people) still come out and support us," Daniels said. "Because we were the ones out there playing every play, every snap. He was just the one calling the plays."

Was technically Moses but point taken and a good one... Tebow will go out a winner. Florida is not Choklahoma.
Lost our DC. Lost the receivers coach. Urban looking for staff right now. Not moving tickets at all after everyone paid big bucks for Atlanta tix last week. Numerous players looking to go pro and not wanting to get hurt practicing too hard.

Man, this has a bad feel to it. Hope I'm wrong. I totally get the Bama mindset now. It is like the Sugar Bowl is a huge disappointment
