GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre's playful challenge was direct.

If you think he's losing zip on his trademark passes that have broken receivers' fingers throughout his career, try catching a few yourself.

"It's a matter of opinion, but I challenge you to come out and catch a couple for me afterwards. You make that decision," a grinning Favre said Tuesday.

Favre Hints Success May Bring Him Back
By CHRIS JENKINS
AP Sports Writer

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Now that the Green Bay Packers are winning again, might Brett Favre once again put off retirement and return to play next season?
Favre hasn't said that himself, preferring to delay his now-annual retirement saga until after the season. But in a conference call with Detroit reporters on Tuesday, Favre at least hinted that the Packers' successful season makes him more likely to return next year.
"If last season gave me hope, if I felt optimistic after our Chicago game last year at 8-8 and not making the playoffs, sure, I obviously have to feel a little bit better - especially individually," Favre said.

DETROIT -- Brett Favre fumbled on his first play of the game. It was about the only mistake he made.

Favre set a Green Bay record with 20 consecutive completions and had a season-high 381 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers' 37-26 win over the Detroit Lions yesterday.
"I threw it. They caught it," he said simply. "Nothing spectacular."
His seventh 300-yard game of the season matched a team mark he set in 1995. Despite being 38, Favre appears to be in the prime of his career.
"He's the greatest ever," Lions quarterback Jon Kitna said.

Packers expect Favre to start vs. Raiders, keep streak alive

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is expected to start against the Oakland Raiders on Dec. 9 and keep alive his record streak for consecutive starts.
"Just to quote the medical staff, his [starting] streak is not in danger. He'll be OK," coach Mike McCarthy said Friday, the day after Favre was knocked out of the Packers' 37-27 loss at Dallas with elbow and shoulder injuries.
His streak, which dates to 1992, stands at 249 games (269 including playoffs) and is a league record for quarterbacks.

Favre tells newspaper he's leaning toward return

In a story posted on the Web site of the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald, Packers quarterback Brett Favre said he isn't approaching Saturday's playoff game against Seattle like it will be his final game in Green Bay. He seemed more optimistic than in years past about returning.
"For the first time in three years, I haven't thought this could be my last game," Favre told the newspaper. "I would like to continue longer."

Evidence of Brett Favre's status is everywhere in Green Bay, Wis., from restaurants to roads to Christmas ornaments.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It hits you as soon as you get off the plane at Austin Straubel International Airport -- Brett Favre and Packers fever.
Everywhere you look in the gift shop, No. 4 is on something, and there it is again, No. 4 on something else. There's even a Brett Favre Christmas ornament -- it's January, and the figurine doesn't look anything like the quarterback, but Packers fans will buy it anyway.
They love everything about their Packers, from the history and tradition to legends like Vince Lombardi and this year's team, which will play host to the New York Giants on Sunday evening in the NFC championship game.
But Favre transcends all. Everyone loves him, and if for some reason you don't, keep your mouth shut here.

Favre retirement watch begins

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre's season lasted longer than anyone would have guessed -- even Favre himself.
Now that it's over, will he be back for another?
A 2007 season noteworthy for the remarkable resurgence of both Favre and his Green Bay Packers ended in disappointment last night, as the Packers lost to the New York Giants 23-20 in overtime in the NFC championship game in Lambeau Field.
The game seemed to be setting up for another one of Favre's magical moments after Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes missed a potential winning 36-yard field goal attempt at the end of regulation, giving Favre another shot at the victory in overtime.
