Bret Bielema (HC Illinois)

2008 was year 2 of Bielema being exposed as a bad coach who had one good year because he was riding the coattails of Alvarez--he's consistently gone downhill in his time at Madison:

2006: 12-1
2007: 9-4
2008: 7-6

Give him a few more years and he'll be out of Madison.

I'd like to establish a general fuck Wisconsin doctrine. Hate their school, hate BB, hate their class (refused to come out onto the field in '07 until AFTER the National Anthem...assholes), and hate, hate, hate, HATE, HATE their band!

Due to an illegal coaching visit in a 'quiet' period in January, an unnamed 2009 recruit from Cincinnati was ruled ineligible but has already been resinstated.

It was most likely Duckworth, since the illegal visit was by WR coach DelVaughn Alexander.

Wiscy's 2009 commits from the Cincy area:
Jeff Duckworth, WR, Cincinnati Princeton (committed last July)
Pat Muldoon, DE, Cincinnati St. Xavier (committed in December)
Brian Wozniak, TE, Loveland (committed last June)

Wisconsin admonishes coaches for making illegal recruiting visits

MADISON, Wis. -- Three Wisconsin assistant football coaches have been admonished for violating NCAA rules by visiting prospects during an off-limits recruiting period, according to records released Friday.

The coaches -- defensive coordinator Dave Doeren, recruiting coordinator Randall McCray and wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander -- made the Jan. 4 trips during a "quiet period" in which no recruiting visits to players can be made.

A university official caught the violations in February while reviewing a recruiting log filled out by one of the coaches. The university reported the trips to the NCAA on March 27 as an inadvertent rules violation.

Doeren and McCray visited a defensive recruit at his Chicago home. He later committed to Illinois. Alexander visited a Wisconsin-bound recruit at his home in Cincinnati. The players' names were not released.

"Even inadvertent violations compromise the integrity of our athletics department and diminish the reputation of our institution," assistant athletic director Steve Waterfield told the coaches in letters of admonishment dated March 27. They were released Friday after a request by the Associated Press.

Senior associate athletic director Vince Sweeney said the visits came on a Sunday when recruiting had been allowed in previous years. A change in the NCAA recruiting calendar this year made it the final day of a winter quiet period, he said.

"They should have known the calendar changed," he said. "We didn't forgive them, but that's how it happened. They felt terrible about it."

He said the handling of the violations demonstrates Wisconsin's aggressive efforts to ensure compliance with NCAA rules.

In reporting the violations, the university declared the recruit from Cincinnati ineligible but asked the NCAA to reinstate him. The university learned Thursday the recruit had been reinstated -- and his family was surprised to find out there had been a problem, Sweeney said.

Contract extended through Jan, 2015

CNNSI

Wisconsin has extended coach Bret Bielema's contract through Jan. 31, 2015, after the Badgers finished the season ranked 16th and won the Champs Sports Bowl.

Bielema took over in 2006 as the hand-picked successor of coach Barry Alvarez, who is now the athletic director at the school. In his first four years, Bielema's teams are 38-14 overall.

That includes a 2-2 record in bowl games after Wisconsin beat Miami 20-14 on Dec. 29 to finish 10-3.

Expectations will be high next season for the Badgers, who return 10 starters on offense and six on defense.

Bielema's total compensation package will increase to $2.5 million in the next academic year. His base salary from the university will remain at $400,000, but the amount he'll receive in program revenue and gift funds will be about $2.1 million and increase $100,000 a year during the new five-year contract.

Chryst will get a base raise to $405,000 a year plus annual additions of $100,000 through Jan. 31, 2016.

Because clearly it was well earned with that masterful job of playcalling in the Rose Bowl.

When you absolutely need to score points on a play, why not start out of shotgun, a formation that you have run 0.5% of the time on the year. Makes perfect sense to me.

It was almost Charlie Weisian: "Hell no, I'm not going to go with what's working. I'm going to pull some schematic advantage out of my arse and show the world what a fricking genius I am."

That, and totally underutilizing the strongest running back in the Big Ten - against a smaller, but more mobile defensive line.
Instead we'll try to run wide - with our smaller backs.

It was beyond stupefyingly ignorant.

I'm surprised that the DC didn't get a raise as well after that fantastic defensive performance in the Rose Bowl.....Let's see play 10 to 15 yards off the receivers give up a first down and repeat....

Can't forget about the lets abandon what got us here and not run the ball mentality...
