Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

If nothing else, scUM has shown they are magnificent at making themselves into a national punch line. If your mind is made up, there is zero reason to not fire your lame-duck coach at the first opportunity. The longer this goes on, the greater the chance, in my IMO, that Hoke comes back next year. They may be trying to be sure they have somebody lined up before letting the fat man go to be spared the embarrassment their last two searches have been. They may also be realizing that Harbaugh is a serious longshot, and not overly impressed with any plan-b's that might be out there. They might be willing to punt this year, keep the fat man one more year, then roll the dice again next year when hopefully there are better candidates, and they don't have to fight with UF and Corn.

I said back in October they should go hard after McElwaine at CSU. Should have canned Hoke after the concussion-gate scandal and got in on McElwaine before UF. But that would take some forward thinking, something tsun has never shown they are willing to do.

Again, look at the contrasts between scUM and tOSU. In May 2011, Tressel resigns. They name an interim coach, and feelers are immediately put out to Urban Meyer (the clear "home run" hire) to gauge his interest. He responds positively, they get things done through back-channels, and he is named the new HC the Monday after The Game...essentially erasing the sting of the first loss in The Game in 8 years, and giving him 6 weeks to wrap up a recruiting class. THAT's how you do it.

Just sayin': All that is true; however, Hackett at scUM is just an "interim AD". We don't really know how long a leash they put him on; and/or what he can and can't do. He may not have the permission/authority to fire Hoke.

In reality the major contributors to the program usually "call the shots". My guess is that scUM's "big money people" believe that Jim Harbaugh would be their clear "home run" hire, and they are waiting out the NFL season to see if he becomes available.

It's been put out there that Hackett has been given the authority to fire Hoke, and hire the next coach. There's also been increasing speculation that Hackett may end up having the "interim" tag removed and become the permanent AD.

There are also those that have said Harbaugh wants Hoke to be treated with respect in regards to how everything goes down. As in, not shit canning in a rush like Nebraska did. If they really think they have a shot with JH, they will take their time with Hoke's firing. Let him be the coach through the awards banquet next week, then announce his termination and the new job search team. That could buy them enough time to get to the end of the NFL season. Unless San Fran makes the playoffs, then the timeline would be off a bit.

again, just conjecture I've read at this point. Everybody in the media is just throwing darts hoping one hits the bulls eye.

We’ve now passed the 48-hour mark since Michgigan’s 42-28 loss to Ohio State, and Brady Hoke is still employed. But that could change before the 72-hour mark passes. According to Sam Webb of GoBlueWolverine.com, Hoke will meet with interim athletics director Jim Hackett on Tuesday afternoon.

Sam Webb @SamWebb77
Multiple sources have confirmed meeting between #Michigan AD Jim Hackett & Coach Brady Hoke WILL occur Tues sometime before 3pm team meeting.
4:30 PM - 1 Dec 2014

The timing of that would make me nervous if I was Brady. Before the team meeting, so the team members can be notified right after the firing.

The fact that there's a meeting at all tells you all you need to know. If they were retaining him, they'd just issue a statement and be done with it. You're kidding yourself if you think there's a chance that they're meeting just so Hackett can tell Brady the job's his next year and go get 'em.
