Bracketology and Selection Sunday Discussion

I never knew about this until just now, but C-USA is employing some odd scheduling twists to try and help their best teams get at-large bids, after MTSU missed the tourney in 2018. I found it odd that Old Dominion had two road games and no home games vs the same conference opponent in the same season in conference play - turns out they have two conference opponents they played on the road twice, and they have two they get at home twice. The scheduling quirks do not seem to be helping any of their teams make the tournament this season.

I feel like the 20-game schedule for the B1G is backfiring for teams close to the bubble. Those extra 2 league games are making the league records worse in comparison to teams of other conferences and there doesnt seem to be any added benefit to having a tougher schedule. The B1G is the overall #1 conference in power ratings, so two extra games is nothing to sneeze at. Washington has an awfully thin resume in terms of quality wins, why should they be a lock based on beating bad basketball teams? They lost to Minnesota, who has played a lot tougher schedule. I feel like there is a bias towards teams with weaker schedules. .

The schedule argument has validity of course, but winning games is kind of important. I suspect teams with losses in the teens are going to get the edge over teams with flashy W/L records based on a handful of "quality" wins more so than their overall strength of schedule.

yeah, this isn't like the CFP, where a really ugly loss to a Bama or Clemson could be more damaging than not going at all.... going to a Rose Bowl and getting a good, quality win was a positive thing for the Football Program going into Day's 1st full year.

And getting to the NCAA Tournament for this team could provide momentum for the basketball program in the same way, with a talent boost coming next yr. I don't ever see making the tourney as a negative in college hoops, regardless the seed, especially for a basketball program that's been teetering between the NCAA and NIT tourneys in recent years anyway.

In hoops, making the Dance is the reward, the ultimate prize, even if it was an up and down or so-so season in a fan's perspective. As a 10, 11 or 12 seed, I could see them getting a favorable draw (with Caleb) and actually winning a game. I don't see them getting embarrassed in the tourney, but I would also bet the house that we won't be seeing them in the elite 8 or Final 4 either.

Florida with a soul-crushing loss at home vs LSU. Tigers didnt score after 3:11 in OT but hung on, as in their last 3 possessions UF had two trips with one missed shot and a possession with 8 seconds coming out of a timeout on their offensive side of the court where they were still trying to drive the ball when the buzzer ran out on them. At home.
