Sweet, I think?! So are they optimistic about the success of the surgery? Yesterday you seemed ominous about the probability.

I really don't know. I just haven't been able to find much information about DVT on the intrawebs because every case seems to be different. Mrs. Katt said the surgeon didn't seem to perceive it as a particularly risky operation, but who knows with doctors and their occasional bouts with god-complexes?
(At least I didn't take her to a particular heart surgeon in Pittsburgh.)

It just occurred to me that tomorrow is 7 months to the day since the hip replacement on that leg. Awesome.

Bucky, if you don't mind me asking....are they talking a vena cava filter yet?

Interesting that. The hematologist yesterday morning said absolutely not and that she was to send ANYONE who recommended it to talk to him.

The first step in tomorrow's procedure is installing a temporary filter in her right leg before they go into her left with the roto-rooter. It is supposed to be removed 7-10 days later, but the primary risk the surgeon emphasized is that they may not be able to remove it. He said even if they couldn't get it out, it wouldn't be a serious issue unless she got pregnant.

(BB73, Scooter, muffler, et al....you have to start using protection, amigos. )

Is there potential for a big lawsuit payout in this for me if they do? :paranoid:

Given her incapacity, now might be the time to insist on breast implants with any surgical procedure. Just sayin'...

I see no reason why any of us starting to use condoms should give you grounds for a lawsuit.

Surgery was a no go today. Tried for a long time to get the temporary filter in place, but apparently, according to the surgeon, her anatomy is "very strange" (always fucking awesome to hear THAT from a doctor) and they couldn't ever get it to a point beyond the clot. So she takes the anti-coagulants and hopes that the body takes care of it on its own.

Considering she can't put any weight on her left leg at this point, this is going to be a long, long recovery process. Much worse than the hip replacement recovery. And there's a 50/50 chance she's going to forever have swelling and pooling issues anytime she's in a car or plane or just standing for more than an hour or two.

I'm in all out "fuck it all" mode. Sell everything, buy a fast car, and take a Thelma and Louise swandive off of the Grand Canyon. (mostly just kidding there). Not scared anymore, just thoroughly depressed and resigned to our lives as they are going to be for however long it may be.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers over the last couple weeks.

I'm thinking that frequent sex should be prescribed for her, in order to keep the blood flowing.

What can I say, I'm a 'silver lining' type of guy.

Best of luck on her believing it, and on that treatment actually working.
