Not to completely steal Mike's thread, but please keep Mrs. Katt in your thoughts (and prayers, if you're the praying type).

Blood clot developed over the last 3 weeks or so that is now running from her left knee all the way to her stomach. Not being treated surgically at this point, but still scaring the shit out of me. :(

We are keeping you and your wife in our thoughts and prayers here Mr. Katt.

Since your wife will almost certainly be on Coumadin for the next 6 months at the least, here are some links so you can kind of plan your meals and whatnot about what she can/can't eat:

Good Luck and keep us updated when you can...

Ahhh... Coumadin. He's been like a brother to me. My dad started taking Coumadin when he was 43-45 (and then got a pacemaker). My mom takes it. My Grandma takes it. My cousin was taking it until he had his second stroke (all before the age of 40).

I pray I never have to take it.

She's stuck in there for at least one more day and is in the midst of a nervous breakdown about it. Trying to convince me that once she gets out, she's going to be okay to go to work for a couple hours before we go home. Stark raving mad, that woman. Good times.

Our literature says it's fine to eat the greens as long as it's a consistent amount so that they can adjust the dosage accordingly. Eats lots of spinach, broccoli, asparagus, greens and they'll just increase the dosage to counter-act all of that. I think we'll still probably try to minimize the intake so that we can minimize the intake of whatever the fuck it is that's in warfarin.

As I mentioned in the PM, the swelling coincided with about the time we started changing our diet to focus on more vegetables. We've always eaten a lot of spinach and leafy lettuce, but we added a lot of broccoli and upped our asparagus, as well as mixing in some collard and mustard greens. Try to get more healthy and put yourself in the hospital for a week. Go figure, right?

Well, that was short-lived. Back in the cage as the son of a bitch has decided to continue to expand down her leg even with the anti-coags in her system. Still no PE, so we've got that going for us.....which is nice.

Meeting with another vascular surgeon tomorrow AM. Yay.

Cocksucker.

My recent experience with a hospitalized friend was disturbing. Too many scew ups and lack of communication made her couple of days scary. Most hospitals are owned large companies and the quality of care has suffered. I would stay on top of all treatment and care to help prevent screw ups from making her situation worse. Take accurate notes on all procedures and contact a patient advocate. Best of luck and hope all goes well and she returns home quickly.

Thanks! We're having fits trying to get straight answers out of the doctors, but that seems to have gotten a bit better since I took her to a different hospital this time. Three doctors at the first hospital gave her different answers to the same question.

And the hematologist this morning was quite puzzled as to WTF the other doctors were doing with her treatment, so that's always a wonderful feeling. :tic:

St. Ann's > > > Mt. Carmel West in having doctors and nurses that are willing to answer questions.

Surgery may happen as early as tomorrow, although we still don't know if it's even going to happen. From everything I've read, all of the possible procedures are pretty high risk, so this is just fucking awesome.

I'm too young to be a widower. :(

Surgery scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to clear the damned thing out. Yay. And the CT of her chest (checking for PE) revealed a lump. Not expecting it to be anything serious, but seriously? Come on!

As I've asked her about a billion times since we got married, "Just how sick and poor are we talking here?"

And for the lawyers......does Ohio have a "lemon law"?
