BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2024, Current Champion = MD Buckeye again)

Aroldis Chapman's injury made a lot of Betances owners happy. I wasn't one of them. I acquired him for holds, not to be another closer.

I hear ya. I grabbed McGee and maybe he keeps "holding on" after Ottovino comes back. If so, I like that opportunity. With Baltimore picking up their offense some, hopefully Givens contributes, as well. Edwards (i just got dropped by a certain someone) Jr just needs a chance. He got one last night after they rolled with Rondon and Strop first. Once the Cubs had the lead, the 8th was his. We'll see.

You can keep him

Edit: we'll see how I feel about it after this week.

The toughest part of fantasy baseball to me has always been figuring out how long to hold on to an "established" guy to see if he rebounds before you cut him. I'm in that boat with about 4 or 5 players on my roster right now.

And by the way, you know that icky feeling you get when you are in a movie theater and you reach to pull your seat down and you feel that sticky combination of used gum and semi-dried pop? That's exactly how I just felt after realizing that @Jake dropped Ryon Healy at 6:55 am yesterday only for said Mr. Healy to have 2 home runs and 5 ribbies count for his team 14-16 hours after his release... :pissed3:

I picked up Healy a few hours before dropping him - had no intention of keeping him - in case he did some damage to Happ (I had some dead weight). Two homers exceeded my expectations, obviously.

My only regret is not picking up Herrera Sunday night instead of yesterday, having missed out on his 2 doubles and a homer last night.

You did give up a player who went immediately to the DL for him after the trade....and I might still choose the DL player if we had to do it all over again with the way he is playing right now.

I remember offering you Joey Bats for Villar before the season. You turned me down.

Bautista was dog shit in April, Villar has been dog shit since April. Good times.

The difference is that before the season, the last memory of Villar on the baseball diamond was a man who had done a pretty good Rickey Henderson impersonation the prior year with the combination of speed and power that he showed. Hard to trade the thought of a repeat of that performance. Unfortunately this season, the only running Villar is doing is running to the dugout railing to bend over for the opposing pitcher. But it has taken two months to figure that out, and he can turn things around. But this is a good lesson in track records. If you have a long track record, it is easier to sell yourself on taking that player in the draft of picking up off of waivers. It can be a delicate balance between track record and potential on your team. If you have that balance, playoffs here you come. If you don't, well then you will be asking "When does football start?"
