Past tense, but present looks perfect

By Bob Ryan, Globe Columnist | October 22, 2007

Forget the score.

Omigawd was that tense!

At least until the little guy unloaded.

But then it got tense again.

Until the Wild Thing Closer got out of the eighth.

And then things got real comfy when the little guy unloaded again in the six-run eighth.

Omigawd, what a ballgame, what a glorious night at Fenway, what a way to enter the World Series.

Natural history

Undaunted Red Sox complete comeback;
World Series opens Wednesday against Rockies

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff | October 22, 2007

There are no shortcuts, this path to the World Series, and no shortage of suspense.

The Red Sox traced their return passage to the Series through Yokohama and Kyoto, Sacramento and Starkville, Miss., the hamlets of Georgia and the suburbs of Houston, a city kid from Cincinnati joining forces with a Dominican muscleman who joined with a son of Cuba who connected with a Native American, all put together by a brainy decision-maker from Brookline and paid for by a reclusive moneyman from Arkansas.

Swagger after his daggers

Pedroia's homer the high point in a 5-RBI effort

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff | October 22, 2007

It might not have had the grace of a dancer's jet?, or the practiced smoothness of a Tiger Woods fist pump. But the kick-step and salute of Dustin Pedroia as he high-fived first base coach Luis Alicea and rounded the bag conveyed not only the joy of bringing the Red Sox two runs closer to the World Series with a home run, it showed the release provided by making a big swing and getting a big hit in a big moment.

Youkilis on the upswing

Revived slugger on postseason tear

By Kevin Paul Dupont, Globe Staff | October 22, 2007

Had it not been for that huge Coke bottle strapped to the light stanchion above the Green Monster, the ball Kevin Youkilis hit in the eight inning last night might have imperiled Mass. Pike motorists, skipped across the Charles River, and slowly come to a roll on this side of the Canadian border.

[sarcasm] It's good that the BoSox are still playing, so nobody in Beantown has to deal with how bad the Patriots and Boston College suck at football this year. [/sarcasm]

Last night the bartender at our neighborhood dive said that he has come up with his own ranking system, and OSU isn't even in the top 30 yet BC is top 10. :slappy:
