Boise State 33, Virginia Tech 30 (final)

Neither Va Tech nor Pitt(both from the Big East) looked as good as hoped.
What does this bode for our game with Miami?
Not a vintage Va Tech team and Tyrod Taylor failed to impress. Anyone who thinks he's even close to TP is just wrong.
But let's give Boise their due for playing a very good game and being money in crunch time.
I thought Taylor looked pretty good at times. Not as good as TP of course but not chopped liver.

What was Butlers record versus the BCS conference schools before this season? Past performance doesn't guarantee much.

comparing basketball to football is incredibly stupid

3 point line is probably the greatest talent equalizer in sports......

How exactly does one make a double post 9 minutes apart?

How indeed???? What makes a feeling of deja vu come over you despite not having seen a post before? And what about Wall-E makes some people cry??? The answer may be found in the Buckeye Zone.

upper-echelon mid-majors

I'm trying to wrap my mind around that classification. College football's weight classes are becoming as jacked up as boxing's.

There are no "minor" teams - only majors and mid-majors. The fact that we call every minor team a "mid-major" kinda speaks to this whole Boise State thing in a sense. When every team on your schedule is at worst a "mid-major" then it's not that big of a stretch for some people to rhetorically justify a weak schedule. Also, when every team is at worst a "mid-major" it becomes not so big a leap to claim that the best of the mid-major teams are actually major.

I am not sure if my ears are failing me but on the way home from the store I was listing to ESPN radio and it sure sounded like a Boise fan calling out the Buckeyes schedule. Talk about one fan base that doesn't need to be throwing stones of course the moron mentions Northwestern, Indiana , and Purdue as cupcakes. Yet he conveniently forgot about Miami and the top flight B10 schools.

Teams on our schedule that are currently ranked (AP/Coaches):

Da U (12th/12th)
Wisconsin (11th/11th)
Penn State (18th/14th)
Iowa (9th/9th)

BSU played VaTech when Tech was ranked 10th/6th. They have no one else on their schedule that is currently ranked in the top 25 in either poll. Oregon State is the highest-ranked "unranked" team, and only two other teams even have votes (Nevada has 1 vote total between the two polls).

Virgina Tech (10th/6th)
Wyoming
Oregon State (29th/30th)
New Mexico State
Toledo
San Jose State
Louisiana Tech
Hawaii
Idaho
Fresno State (24 votes/5 votes)
Nevada (0 votes/1 vote)
Utah State

VT shot themselves in the foot early and BSU took advantage of it like a great team should. But keep in mind that after holding VT to -5 yards of offense and zero points in the first quarter, they gave up well over 300 yards of offense and 30 points in the next three. A team being talked about as the #1 team in the country simply does not do that, regardless of who and or where they are playing.

I see Boise Stae sort of like Gonzaga in basketball. They beat a few big names, they dominate their conference but what always happens to Gonzaga in the tourney? Let Boise play in the NC game this year and let's see what happens.

There's your problem- My frustration with Boise State is that they only have to win two games a year against "top" competition: whatever non conference game they have, and then a bowl game.

If we had a tournament/playoff, they'd not be a factor (like Gonzaga- same part of the country, too). Heck, even Peterson said as much last week, commenting that "the BCS has been pretty good to us so far".

I know it's unfair but every year it seems we have this mid major that's undefeated and cries that they should've had a crack at the title. All I'm saying is give them the shot and if they get blown out the voters can use that as a reference for the next year. I honestly don't think Boise would win any of the 6 BCS conferences but if they win the games put in front of them plus the two challenges then I think they deserve a crack. Besides it makes for good drama, gives sportscenter and the other talking heads something to talk about.

Bullshit. It's more than winning the games put in front of you. Tulane went undefeated in 1998. No one thinks they got "screwed" When a team like Ball State goes undefeated, no one thinks "Poor ball state"

If any "big boy" school had Boise's schedule, they'd be laughed out of the room and no one would be "impressed" by their going undefeated against it. If Ohio State had such a schedule, they'd be crucified. Schedule matters.

As for "good drama...." Fuck drama. I want GOOD FOOTBALL.

Didn't Balls State get their ass kicked by Buffalo and then in their bowl game? I know they have a joke schedule but they also have a good football team. Who knows until they give one of these midmajors a shot at the title. Besides, it's the BCS formula which decides so if the formula says they're in, thery're in. If not, sorry Boise, beat up TCU again.
That's one thing that disappointed me about the BCS bowls last year. They had Boise State playing TCU. I would've rather have seen say Florida-TCU and Iowa-Boise State.
