Countdown until Boise State fans all over the country come out and start pounding their chests and saying they deserve a shot at the Natl' Title.
They have fans all over the country?

"Boise State secures their spot as a national power"

Please excuse me while I go puke and try to get my sanity back.
Why not? Every powerhouse program had to claw its way to the top and get past the existing elite, even Ohio State. Granted, the Buckeyes joined the club back in the 1930's or 40's, but it took us about fifty years to become a consistent national power.

Boise State beat Oregon to open the season (you remember them, that's the team that we were so proud of beating in the Rose Bowl), and they just beat a 12-0 TCU team that was about one second away from being in the national title game themselves. Oh, and Boise State did it the right way this year ... with defense, you know, that thing that supposedly wins championships. They held the unstoppable Oregon offense (#8 in the nation averaging 37.7 ppg) to 8 points ... and the equally unstoppable TCU offense (#4 in the nation averaging 40.7 ppg) to 10 points. Yeah, the rest of their schedule is garbage, but how many other teams beat two opponents that will finish in the top ten this season? Maybe Alabama, maybe Ohio State, maybe Georgia Tech ... that's a pretty short list.

Does Boise State go 13-0 in the Pac 10? No, probably not ... but they probably do win at least nine games, which is certainly respectable ... and they certainly could have run the table in that conference this year.

As a Buckeye fan, would you really want to play a "plus one" game against Boise State next week?

Slightly different topic ... If the winner of the Alabama-Texas game is #1 in the country, and the loser is #2, then who is #3? A 13-1 Florida team with one win over a top-10 opponent (Cincinnati) and one win over a top-20 opponent (LSU) and a very bad loss in the SEC championship game ... or a 14-0 Boise State with two wins over top-10 opponents (Oregon and TCU) and eleven wins over patsies? I say that it's a very close call....

Not a bad game overall... it was pretty entertaining, especially that potentially game-tying last drive. But did it warrant a spot on the big stage? Eh, probably not...

That being said, they needed to rename this game the "Ugly Unis" Bowl because GAWD.... those monstrosities that TCU were straight out of 1995.

I see where you're coming from, and it is a very valid point. However, OSU's rise to prominence consisted of consistently playing against teams like TSUN and other strong teams in our area that were also either on the rise or already there. BSU plays in the WAC where they can dominate at will. Maybe they do actually deserve some respect. But until the conference shakeups happen in the next couple years with expansion and they move to a strong conference and win, they'll still be a cut below in my book.

Would I want to play them? Their offense looks like it could be better than Oregon, and they do seem to have a solid defense. It would definitely be an interesting game. I'd say play it, and we pull out a close one, maybe even an OT game. What do you think?

I think TCU laid an egg being jaded by their first appearance on a truly big stage, which was a definite advantage for Boise. Against tOSU, they don't get that egg-laying advantage. But now we're talking hypothetical matchups, which isn't really a worthy discussion. They're due some respect, yes. But being named a national power? I think that's quite a bit excessive right now.

*I didn't need their resume, I know who they played. And what's with the digs that suggest I'm one of those idiots who thinks defense is a sidebar? I may be kinda new around here, but I don't think I've done anything to single myself out as an idiot or what have you. My opinion may have been strong (too strong, I'll allow), but I don't think it is unrealistic as I've explained it. Two bowl wins and people want to declare them a national power with the likes of UF, tOSU, TSUN, Bama, USC...surely you agree that its rather hasty and premature to bestow that kind of title on them. Because those are true national power schools, regular contenders.

Excellent post. I was at the game last night, had no allegiance to either team, just got a free ticket and went, but I can tell you Boise State is no joke. The caliber of player is not overwhelming from a pure physical standpoint, but they play exceptionally well as a team. I was actually quite impressed with both team to be honest, but Boise's D was lights out...they do not miss many tackles...and they gang tackle!

Yeah, that was so evil, I had to blame BN27, since he's on his way to Hell already.

Didn't watch much of the game, but the overall lack of speed on both teams was noticeable after watching multi-loss, mid-pack BCS teams like Oklahoma, Mississippi and LSU display speed in ample quantities. Neither BSU nor TCU in their current incarnation could, IMO, finish a season above .500 if they played in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten or Pac 10.

This is why I kept snickering every time their coach said "Bronco Nation" during the award ceremony.

I guess I should have thought about my post some more before posting that.

When watching the game did anyone think the player(#17) who made the game winning interception was a safety? He has the build of a LB/DE. Maybe BSU can borrow Barwis to get him in shape. ESPN has him listed as 5-11" 223lbs Safety.

Fast forward to about 3:00.

And if it weren't for their games Appy State, La. Monroe, South West Missouri Teachers, Little Sisters of the Poor, MAC teams, etc, etc, how many SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12 teams would be over 500?

By my count tOSU played four (possibly five) games against teams with the same level of talent -- and won three of them.

Exactly. There's no need to bash BSU...they've done well and beat Oregon just as we did. They're a damn good team, congrats to them.
