Bitching about the 2004 Season

I think that what's hurting Zwick's accuracy the most is that all day saturday he was throwing off of his back foot instead of stepping into his throws. Now I don't know if that had anything to do with the ankle injury or jitters or a combo of both but that is definently an area in need of improvement. If he would have stepped into his throws he just may have hit holmes on those two long post passes over the middle.

I'm really sorry that I offended "Da-Bucks" with my not so "clever" play on his moniker. What a fucking crybaby. What kind of douchebag is it that would come onto a site like this and make a statement that this team is not "top 40." Once again moron, I challenge you to start listing the 39 that are better. In the words of the late, great Rodney Dangerfield in "Caddyshack", "Well, We're Waiting."
I was just pointing out that you are a fucking tool.

I can post like a jackass too, but what purpose does it serve? You're such a fucking idiot that you can't rebute my post about NORTHWESTERN. They aren't in the top 40, yet they are a better team than us on the field.

Here's some statistics, I hope you are able to comprehend them:

In the Big 10:

  • We are #8 in Passing offense, but in yardage we are second to last. Only Wisconsin (who passed all over us) is below us in passing yards.
  • We have the second worst amount of TDs in the Conference through the air. Only Wisconsin is lower
  • We are 10th in Rushing Offense. Only Iowa has less yards.
  • We are 8th in Rushing Defense! The thing is, we've only played 1 real running team. Only the perennial Big 10 doormats are below us.
  • 9th in Scoring offense. Only Wisconsin and PSU are below us.
  • 33rd in nation in Total defense. Our best major stat.
  • In Total offense, we rank dead last in the Big 10. <>We are minus 5 in turnover margin. Of course we are dead last in the big 10 in that category too.

    </>
So tell me assclown, instead of playing pointless games of naming who's better and you being a stupid fuckwad and saying "oh we'd beat that team", how about you tell me what our record will be and where that will place us in the final rankings.

Look at it this way, we were very lucky to beat Marshall. Army put up much more impressive numbers against Cinci and that was their first win in 20 games. We were lucky to send NU to overtime, and against Wisconsin our impressive 2nd half adjustments managed us -0- points and negative rushing yards. That is not a sign of a top 40 team.

Our statistics state we have a manageable defense against some fairly poor offensive teams, and the worst offense in the conference and 97th nationally.

Now, I'm sure that you, being a flaming fuckwit, will come up with a short and meanial comeback with no basis in logic. I'm not going to play a retarded "name the teams game", it will only result in meaningless conjecture.

But looking at our schedule with the strength of the opponents and how "well" we're playing - a 6-5 team is a very realistic possibility. Do you disagree? What do you think a 6-5 team should be ranked? In the top 40?

If we don't DRASTICALLY improve we won't beat:
Iowa
Purdue or
Michigan.

There's 5 losses right there. Now PSU and Michigan State aren't gimmes either. God I hope Indiana is, but they have shown signs of being able to play once in awhile.

In conclusion: You are a definately a fucking tool.

Now bring on the dings.

I'm not one to call for someone's head, so to speak, but I am no longer a fan of Justin Zwick (if I ever was). The kid may have some talent, but the horrible inaccuracy of his throws, especially the way he tends to sail his passes, combined with his horrible decision-making really has me nervous. It doesn't seem to me that he has progressed at all so far this year. I'm not saying Troy would be better, I don't know...but Zwick sure isn't as advertised so far. Hopefully he'll have a good game and turn everything around. It could happen, especially with a young QB like him, but I'm nervous...

DA-Bucks, good post, excluding all the name calling. Woody, he's right, and he's backing it up with statistics. Listen to AKAK - everyone take a deep breath, and cool off. We're all upset, but we're upset because of our team's performance, not at each other. I love this team, but I honestly can't say I've seen anything this year that would indicate tOSU is a top 40 team.

When I came across this Thread and looked to who started it, i was really surprised and at 1st i thought it was that Woodyworshiper, was up to one
of his old tricks as he displayed way back in 2001 and 2002, over in Bucknuts and alot of his threads were started just so he could piss people off and bait them into some kind of stupid re-buttle and then he would drop the bomb on us to say he was just messin around with us. But that was a long time ago and now we are all over here in Buckeyeplanet with a brand new format and supposedly better individual line of thinking in regards to Ohio State Football. As for "Woodyworshiper", well i always would go into read almost everyone one of his posts because i felt he really had a lot to say and knew what he was talking about in dealing with Ohio State and how he felt about Jim Tressel and him being at Ohio State. Never once did he ever post anything like this that we are reading now, regardless of how poorly we played and yet somehow escaped the jaws of defeat especially in 2002. When Ohio State was awarded the NC, he was the King but now 2 losses back to back and "Dubs" is saying he has to go. I respect alot of you out there and what you have to add...... but this one thread has me baffled.

For 9 long years we were under the tutilage of John Cooper and the frustrations he continued to bring to our table was more that alot of us could bear. But no matter what........... we all would say "OKay I guess we have to wait until next year"......... And we continued in that mode of thinking until it finally got to be just too much, especially after the thrashing we received from South Carolina in the 2001 outback bowl. Now here it is only 4 years later and we are thinking that Tressel has to be fired. Shame on you "Woody" for this. I am hoping that all of this is still a big fat joke. Say it ain't true Woody?

Kippy- As ALWAYS-- thanks for the historical perspective. It try to make it a personal habit, everytime I think badly of Tressel to picture Cooper in that Hot Tub... I suppose that had nothing to do with coaching... but then I remember the blank looks on his face in Michigan loss number 1 thru 6034.

Calling for a 'firing' right now is pointless.

First things first. I really take exception to the idea that "Tressel won with Cooper's Players" This might have truth to it, but Cooper still got himself canned... and the recruting class that should be seniors... the guys who should be leading this team... (More or less) was the 'in-between' class. Which, and it really no ones fault, just wasn't very good-- or else isn't helping us a lot right now- Gamble's gone, Fox is not playing, Fraser is Good but not a huge difference maker. I remember thinking that the centerpiece of that class were the TB's. Well. That didn't work out that well.

Tressel's 'real' first class are now RS Sophs and Juniors... some good, some not so good... but mostly they don't have a ton of experience.

(So Our OL isn't that good... even if he had jumped right on his first class... which he got, what? 6 guys that are playing OL... he still got 2 or 3 staters in that one class... more are coming). Regardless you still have the same problem no matter how good the guys were. Very little experience.

Now that I got my griping out of the way on the "Won with Cooper's Players arguments"

What is the point of Firing Tressel at this moment (Or any of the coaches for that matter). Does it really matter if we go 8-3 or 6-5 or 4-7? Not really. (Well, I suppose that it might hurt recruiting... but then you stick the next poor bastard with 4 years of Tressel's Guys)

Anyway, why would anyone bring this up before the end of the season?

What happens when we beat Michigan and win Bowl game... and have a bevy of [more] expereinced and guys coming back?

Wanna hire guys to win with Tressel's players... Why not? Cooper couldn't win with his.

I for one thought every time we ran the ball we did so with authority. I thought Ross ran particularly hard this game, Pittman was Pittman, and what can we say about Joe who everytime he gets the ball just blows people up and moves the chains. What I'm scratching my head at is this. It seems everytime we find something successful we never run it again but in contrast do the complete opposite. Say for instance with Pittman he was running very well off tackle and had 47 yards I think on 6 or 7 carries. Now I know we were down most the game, but we where only down 1 point when half time came about. Even though we were down only 1 point we came out and passed the ball all over the field even though Zwick was completely lost. Ross when he was in had some tough runs between the gaurds but again we never went back to it. Joe was in on a 3rd down and 1 and picked up the first down TWO TIMES, and when the situation appeared in the 2nd half we lined up with 5 wide. What the hell??? Now I'm all with trying to be unpredictable, but be smart about the situation and task at hand. If you got a Qb who just isn't there, and you got running backs who are doing a nice job of getting steady yards take the yards and grind on them. Because we have 3 good backs that can consistently be fresh and eventually take its tole on the badgers plus whoever we face in the future. We had better play calling but horrilbe plays when it really mattered.

Good points here AKABUCK. From a coaching standpoint, i have been in alot of film sessions with coaches on saturday mornings, going thru the friday game films and learning from that brought me to a whole different view of football and how its played.

Every group or class of kids is going to very different and that is where the challenge of coaching really lies. Bob Cummings - Mike Gottfried and Mark McCann were pretty damn good coaches in high school football and they all brought the same philophical view of how the game has to be played.

To me execution is one big factor in the game. It is so suttle at times, you hardly even begin to see it happening. But when you break down game films you can really see the mistakes.

Maybe alot of you don't agree with my thinking or even for alot of my posts for that matter. I guess it is because I am one of those older guys from the "Old School" so to speak. And i guess i just see things differently because of my age. Yeah I get damn frustrated with the way I see Ohio State playing and it sure does hurt. These are young kids still in the process of learning. To hear of fans saying Tressle has to go just make me sick. I think I am gonna lay low for awhile and just go out and play some serious golf for 2 or 3 months. That way i can really get pissed off at myself if I don't execute the game that way it should be played.

I've got to emphasize that Zwick's mechanics problems are exacerbated by incessant rush and his inability to set up. He was throwing off rear foot too many times as the D closed in.

Time itself, exposure in battle, expert coaching, maturing OL...all play a part in this QB's future. I wouldn't be nervous, just anxious for the good times to again roll. As they will.
