Billy Donovan (HC Oklahoma City Thunder)

Don't know except to say they all seem to be low character people. JMO.
Saban is a bitch. Donovan is in a whole other category in my book. Who the hell does that? I just don't get the thought process behind that one. I personally didn't think he was that good of a coach in the first place. Hopefully we pick up Stan Van Gundy's ugly ass.

ESPN was saying earlier that the contract was indeed signed...
Eh, who knows. The article on si.com was saying it wasn't signed yet. Either way. If he does have a SIGNED contract, Orlando would be pussies to let him out of it. Fuck that, a contract is a contract. How's this gonna come off to recruits? Probably won't make a difference, but the man obviously has trouble keeping his word.

I almost changed this thread title Friday. Looks like a wait-and-see type of thing at this point.

It seems apparent that anybody hiring a college basketball coach shouldn't have a press conference to make the announcement until a contract is signed. And that the contract should have specific damages if the coach attempts to back out of it.

Orlando's other problem is the lack of confidence the team would have in Donovan if he remains their coach. I have no sympathy for Billy if he did sign the contract (which appears to be the case), and I hope that Orlando sues him, rather than letting him back out.

UF will surely welcome him back... but how do you reassure your players that you're back? What happens when he's offered a more promising roster and equal/more money?

Wow Billy just can't make his mind up. Turns out he wants to return to Florida but will Orlando let him?

My guess is that they will let him. Nobody wants a coach that doesn't actually want the job. The question is how much $$$s (losses and/or damages from lost ticket sales) will Orlando want to let him out of the contract. I saw where Orlando sold 200 new season tickets immediately after Donovan was announcd as the coach. Will these people ask for a refund?

Nice article:

Donovan Only Has Himself To Blame For This Mess

During a two-month roller-coaster of rumors, in which his future was linked to Kentucky, NBA openings or staying long-term at Florida, the tap-dancing Billy Donovan continually offered a puzzling statement:
''This isn't about me.''
Well, it is now.

Nobody put a gun to his head. He consulted with his family and his inner circle. He reluctantly said goodbye to the Gators. He signed a reported five-year, $27.5-million contract with the NBA's Orlando Magic. He announced his plans at a news conference that was televised statewide. And today he wants to say ... never mind?

While true, it is a job. Just like many people's job, you can get hired and the company can lay you off because there is a merger or a new cost cutting CEO, or any old reason. And if you are hired you can get a better job.

For all the Gator fans calling for his disloyal head when he said he was leaving, those very people would be callling for his firing if his recruiting fell or we missed the Dance a couple years in a row.

And while it is embarassing for it to play out like that, slavery is no longer legal. You can work where you want. It should cost him some $$$$ to waffle and upset the apple cart so stupidly. But a true change of heart (or rather a realization that his heart was not in it to begin with) is better than a half hearted effort for the Magic. I'm sure there are terms in the contract that address the issue. I hope he gives them a million and stays at UF. At least the NBA will be gun shy about him for years....which is nice.

But this is also somewhat different in that it was a head coaching job. It is not as if he left Burger King for McDonalds and then went back to Burger King. There were millions of dollars involved and this will greatly set back the franchise's off season work.

Absolutely big....which is why he needs to pay the agreed upon contractual penalty for his indecision - whatever it is.
