Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

Crazy that he interviewed still and had this much pursuit from teams yet never wanted to leave.

This was his big opening to get out.

Bingo. If he wants to be on the biggest stage (which you'd think he would, given that he was an NFL OC), this was his best (and maybe last, if things go south at PSU like many expect) chance.

I wouldn't be surprised if the interest in O'Brien was completely over-blown. I wouldn't be surprised if teams wanted to talk to him, but the amount of interest that was supposedly out there for him seems ridiculous to me.

The guy is a year removed from essentially being fired as New England's OC.

I'm still not sold on him staying. It makes no sense, unless he's getting a pretty crazy raise or if the teams weren't willing to give him control of the rosters.

Or, he didn't want to be a backup plan.

I just don't think he's the commodity his agent would like us to believe he is. No owner in their right mind would:

a. Pay the buyout
b. Give their head coaching position to a guy who was going to be fired from New England last year.
c. Buy in to his 8-4 record when he had 30 seniors in an awful conference

It's a nice story and all, but I trust these twitter sources as much as I would trust Sekrah or Tugspeedwell.

Really? I'd like to know more.

Your point on the buyout is understandable.

I've listened to him talk during the post-game press conferences. He always stays classy. Takes the blame for losses and is fair in recognizing good performances. Never throws anyone under the bus. I think he is a good coach. In any case, he is the best thing to happen to PSU in a long long LONG time.
