Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

Short term I think BOB is a good hire. Long term they should have gone with someone who runs a gimmick offense. Someone who runs an air raid, triple option, or even the wishbone. The pro-style is going to be very hard to run with 2-3 star recruits, and no depth. Especially, if you're going up against programs with 3-4 and 4-3 defenses, with 3-5 star recruits, and depth at almost every position.

When the pre sanction classes start graduating, and the post sanction classes start playing. Its going to be several tough years for BOB. Assuming he will stick around.

With some success in a tough situation for him this season, would anybody be surprised if the SEC( ARK, AU KY, or TN) would make a run at him? Charlie Strong can't coach everywhere.

I can't see him leaving for another college job. Despite who he coaches for....he seems like he has some integrity. I'd say the only job he leaves for would be in the NFL......which would be hilarious because I don't see any team offering him the head job after just 1 year as a head coach, so he would have to leave for an OC job. They'd lose their shit on BWI if that happened.

I apologize if this was already in the Penn State thread but:

Bill O'Brien on NFL short lists

A fun part:

However, sources say teams that have gauged his interest have been informed by a third party representative that when O'Brien accepted the task of being the late Joe Paterno's successor, he was told by school officials that the Jerry Sandusky scandal was a criminal matter, not an NCAA concern. That proved to be bad information as Penn State was dealt a four-year bowl ban and scholarship reductions as part of its penalties.

Didn't realize they had mislead him that much....

Unless his plan in life is to stay at PSU for the next 15 years he's never going to look better to NFL teams then he will right now. He has to jump ship now....

The tears will be delightful...

Yep, look to Cholly Weis as an example...

How great would it be for Billy to go to the NFL? There is literally no quality candidates that would want to coach at Pedo right now.

Yep - it would cause a calamity for that program and by extension, at least if you listen to their mutant inbred subhuman fans, their entire university.

Since football = the university and whatnot...

I really hope it happens and I really do for his sake. His value to a potential NFL employer will not be any higher than it is right now.

O'Brien would be an absolute fool to pass up an NFL head coaching position in order to stay at that sinking ship that is the PSU program. Let's see--on the one hand, you've got the pinnacle of the profession, and on the other hand, you've got a has-been program that won't sniff a bowl game or any top recruits for years. He needs to get out while the getting is good, because after a few losing seasons (which are bound to come), NFL teams won't be knocking on his door anymore.
