Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

I don't see how you could look at this as anything other than a good move. He's obviously an upgrade over Corey Dennis if it's essentially a 1 for 1 swap on the staff. And I think they definitely they needed another proven scheme idea/ play calling voice other than Day. Hartline and Frye, all due respect, is not exactly a murderer's row combination of scheme and play calling experience and know-how.
It's a very good move imo. Putting aside the obvious upgrade over Dennis, I get some of the trepidation but I think he's going to be a perfect fit with Day and Hartline. He'll completely handle play calling, brings a ton of experience from great programs under excellent mentors, and I believe will be a good recruiter.
Brady would have been the homerun hire imo, but this also works.
There was some excitement around Candle too, but i think he's angling for a HC job.
BOB isn't the wow hire, but i think this will fit really well and work. Should be no question Day is giving up playcalling, and im here for it.

The one thing i really want to see right now are some OL transfers. I know it's not easy right now, may have to wait for spring (and see if Frye is even staying) but that's where im at.
Yeah I was slightly favoring Brady, but that was a pipe dream apparently. Agreed the fit should be great with the staff and I think he's going to finally give us that smalltalk l smash mouth element we've missed on offense (on top of everything above). This is a perfect way to prep Hartline as well.

I think Brady was a realistic possibility till the Bills went on their tear won the division and made it to the divisional round. Then it became why would he give up an NFL OC job for a College OC job

colobuck, you and I are thinking alike. We'll have to see if Day actually gives away play calling, and we'll see if B'oB will stand still if he won't. Then, we'll see if B'oB calls a play that Day doesn't like, and how that works out. Finally, what about Hartline? has the title (isn't a co-OC a step down from OC?), but not the responsibility, so how is Brian going to get the training (in play calling) that he so sorely needs (yes Brian, there are other plays than WR crossing, or WR fly routes), to make him an actual functioning OC? Made my living looking for the rattlesnakes in the wood pile, so this is some of that. Anyone see a very seasoned, savvy former HC, OC, NFL coach knuckling into a 4 year whippersnapper or a mere WR coach? did I miss anything here?

So, on a whim, I went and found this thread.

New rule......same as the old rule:

This applies to any reference of Barnacle O'Bindledick in any thread. Keep it nice and clean in the recruiting forum. Nothing changes, even if his employer does.
His name is Bill O'Brien.

When he left the Pedsters we agreed he was Bill O'Brien
