And with all of the talk of bringing in Freeman from UC, I'm still surprised that no one has brought up snatching someone from the App State staff who had a damn good defense this year, and their HC just got the Louisville job, leaving some defensive coaching jobs in flux.

To be fair to Arnette, he's pretty good on the screens and outside contain (minus getting sucked in by the Maryland RB). I can think of a few screens he's blown up single handedly while being blocked. In that way, he reminds me a bit of Roby... but with none of the coverage skills unfortunately.
Sheffield... I feel like he's always with the receiver, and still they usually make the catch. He's too passive ? I don't know. Arnette is who he is, but can't help feeling Sheffield could have been an NFL player (3rd-5th rounds?) with better coaching.
I haven't been that impressed with Wade and Okudah so far. Seems like a case of "grass is greener" to me. Seeing a lot of the same as Sheff imo... they'll be there, but the WR will either make the catch anyway or a PI.

All the big plays are on 3 and 8. So not sure why the pessimism on 1 and 24.

- I feel I'm more down on the coaching than the players. And to bring this back to Bill... it's what strikes me as similar with LBs. In both cases, we have a room full of ultra-talented highly-sought-after studs... wherein it doesn't seem to matter who we put on the field, because the same mistakes happen regardless. And that's a coaching problem.

- I've wiped most of the big plays out of my head (except that 1st MD run cuz they replayed it 20 times on each side of the commercial break), but I distinctly remember facepalming to 1 and 24's share of moments as well.

I said something similar prior to the season starting and took some heat. Still stand by it. Arnette just hasn’t found any consistency. He will make a big play, and then coverage will fall apart two or three other plays.

Okudah and Wade should be starters, and it might be interesting to see Sheff at the Nickel.

I think it was scheme problem ..all 3 levels were not in sync. The secondary was playing man so as we saw our corners never had their eyes in the backfield..so they were slow to the ball carrier. Our DL played the pass so our line shed blockers that let the blockers get to the second and third levels. They should have occupied the blockers and clogged holes except on 3rd and long. Our LB were so close to the line they were run bye over an

Well true... but the when your players aren't good at playing hands like 2018 is then you have to do something different.

IMO hardly any team will be able to execute the "not look back" approach so don't even bother.
