Folanator

Brawndo's got electrolytes...
Ok I know I was warned by a few of you....I was one of the dumb shits that saved $30 and subscribed to Buckeye Inside Information. I have not said anything here because of some of the feelings and even supported that site by placing posts on BN premium that gave them props. Alan had done some good stuff reporting some scoop and I thought that they would do a good job. But what the hell happened over there? Alan has not posted for a month so obviously he has punted on fourth and long. HH to his credit seems to be the only one that throws a bone in occasionaly.

Jeeze, at least make it look like you are making an effort for the paying members.

I'd say the solution, if you're unhappy with the site, is to not renew your subscription. AS for what's going on over there, I'm little help. I don't know what Alan's doing. I could make a joke here, but I'll leave that for the ones that'll surely follow.

You sould ask for some money back as you haven't gotten what was promised. There are so many ways to go here but I'll leave it teed up for someone else as well.

I think the community was created for the wrong reasons.

They are competing with Bucknuts in the premium area, which is a losing battle. They are competing with Buckeyeplanet for the social aspects, which is a losing battle as well.

They don't hold a comparative advantage anywhere.

I agree with the sentiment that Golfer expresses. I actually was travelling internationally and missed the exit from BP, so I don't really have anything against those guys who are Buckeye fans as well.

Nevertheless, the key success factor in marketing is meaningful differentiation. It's not just being different, but different in a way that makes people say, "I want that one."

Differentiation is what delivers competitive advantage. In my mind, those guys have yet to meaningfully differentiate. I know they think they have, based on their unique insights, but I would rather read what the people who remain here post. There are a number of obvious problems in their marketing strategy, in my opinion.

First, I am not sure why that site looks almost exactly like BP :roll1: , but that is a certain way to communicate to potential users that your site is not really any different from BP, which is free.

Second, an Internet community is made distinctive by the content of its conversations. There's not really much online contribution there, that is they have never reached critical mass, and the few people who are doing the talking are the very people that alienated the community from which they emerged.

Third, they have never justified a premium in my mind. Remember, I am the guy who was arguing that we should have some premium content in order to finance our expansion, so I am not opposed to paying. The question is, paying for what? I just don't see any value there as opposed to here. I have also come to understand the value of our free, voluntary contribution system over time and it lets me pay what I want, when I want.

So, I guess what we have here is a case study that is a perfect example of the value of social networks, brand image, and community support in Internet related new start-up businesses.

I am surprised it continues to operate and I am sorry that it has not met their ambitions. However, I equally feel that its failure to succeed so far is directly the founders' responsibilities.

So, vote with your feet, if you are unsatisfied and don't renew.

Well keep in mind, as Clarity has said many times..........Vbulletin is fairly simply to configure, and does what you need it to do. If you dont have an experienced web designer, and obviously they do not, you are gonna use what is fairly simple to use, and does what it needs to do. So they are using VB, and it's going to tend to look very similar. While it is quite gay of them to do such, I have a hard time finding any hostility or whatnot in it.

He He..

He said "GAY!"

I don't know about the premium stuff over there (I am a cheap bastard!) but the non premium content/conversation never took off. The only ones posting there with regularity are the staff (at least the last time I was there) and mostly then just LloydSev, and although nice enough of a guy, he was never really that interesting (outside of that trainwreck of a dream that he was stupid enough to post about) to read and post over there with any consistency.

There has to be a good amount of free traffic to get people there to want to pay to see the premium stuff.

Tough business to enter, tough business to make a profit, and very tough business to enter when you burn multiple bridges with those who would have helped the transition. If people do not trust you in a business, you will not float. Unfortunately, that is the case here. Sometimes, it is best to simply tell the truth.
