Yep, I remember times in the 90s (even the early 2000s) where Ohio State games were relegated to the college gameplan.ESPN pulled that crap a long time ago to with early season tOSU and PedSt. games. They wanted to get an uproar going to put ESPNU on basic cable.
Then again they did the same thing in the 90s with a UNC/Duke game which is why we all get the Deuce.
That wasn't exactly a bad deal. In that day there weren't other options. It was awesome that was even an option. That was the beginning point where you could see every single game. Haven't missed one since.Yep, I remember times in the 90s (even the early 2000s) where Ohio State games were relegated to the college gameplan.
Which meant that I could watch them all the way up here in NH. In the early 90s I had to find them by hunting around with my big satellite dish-I think that lasted into the Raymont Harris teams.Yep, I remember times in the 90s (even the early 2000s) where Ohio State games were relegated to the college gameplan.
The 1996 media guide contained a bullet point emphasizing the fact all 13 Buckeye games in 1995 were televised, including 9 games on ABC, 3 on ESPN, and 1 on ESPN2. It certainly wasn't routine even then.
Just off the top of my head I remember not getting the ESPN+/GamePlan feed for SDSU's near-upset at the Shoe in 2003; I listened to that one on the radio. As recently as 2006 we've dealt with the OSU/Indiana game being carried by ESPNU, which was not available to Comcast customers and only on Time Warner in an expensive premium tier, also with a tape delayed broadcast available on ONN. Even the Michigan/App St & Ohio State/YSU games in 2007 were unavailable to many because of problems getting carriage for BTN. Also recall going to a bar for an Ohio State/Minnesota game in the late 90s because I did not have ESPN2.
I believe one of the things Nebraska fans lauded about the move to the Big Ten and getting BTN was that they would no longer have PPV games, which I've always understood has been a regularity in Big XII markets.
The personal worst for me was when I lived in Maryland, and had to watch as the GAME was pre-empted by Comcast for a riveting match up of Virginia vs. Georgia Tech. The 1996 media guide contained a bullet point emphasizing the fact all 13 Buckeye games in 1995 were televised, including 9 games on ABC, 3 on ESPN, and 1 on ESPN2.
