Big Ten Power Rankings

I can't see them getting any votes this week after this performance from last night:biggrin:

Minnesota 62, Indiana 54 -- Paul Carter's career-high 22 points and a season-high 14 steals by Minnesota (19-5, 7-5) were too much for Indiana (6-17, 1-10).

Playing without suspended leading scorer Devan Dumes, the Hoosiers had only four players with a field goal and tied a season high with 26 turnovers.

Minnesota is struggling to score now that Westbrook isn't producing and Hoffarber (outside of one half against OSU) isn't doing much either ... it's hard to expect the Gophs to finish among the top three in the league without those guys scoring consistently. They're really starting to slide - apart from that home win vs. Illinois, they haven't done much of anything positive lately.

Illinois loses to almost everyone on the road and blows out almost everyone at home. They lost by more on the road against each of UM, Minny and Wisky than they lost by at MSU.

Illinois goes on a 17-2 run to win the game in the final 2.9 seconds @ Northwestern. :yow2:

Northwestern played so well, but the Illini stepped their intensity up tremendously. Their D was lock-down and the Wildcats couldn't handle the pressure.

Seemed like a great atmosphere. A real good game.

Bill Carmody looked so beat during the post-game handshake.

What an amazing choke job NW just pulled against Illinois, I mean, wow. This loss is on Carmody I think. They don't know how to break a press, they don't know how to get out of a trap. They looked totally inept in all their possessions in the last 5 minutes. Classic case of being more concerned with running clock than scoring points.

Yep, they sure did. This game and our game with them are EERILY similar. Double digit lead with under 5:00 to go. They turn the ball over, they miss shots, they look inept on offense. It's becoming a nice M.O. for them.

we head up there next week, i believe. hopefully we get the double digit lead then they go inept and we win by 25.

This in a nutshell captures my concern about the dreadful slow pace played by teams in the B11. As soon as a good shot presents itself, you should take it. The idea of "running clock" is about as stupid as it gets. As the shot clock runs down, you are forced into progressively fewer chances - not conducive to high offensive efficiency.

Well, if I were you guys, I'd be full court pressing them the ENTIRE GAME. They could not handle it one bit. Illinois definitely exposed this tonight. NW used up 3 timeouts in the last 3 mins because they'd get trapped and couldn't get out.

this was low-level ball, but i always remember disagreeing with my bball coach. he wanted us to have something like at least 3 passes each trip down the court. i was like, if im open i'm taking the shot.

I think with Northwestern it is a little bit different. I know they play a very deliberate style of ball but it seems to me that when they have gotten fairly nice leads in some games this season as their opponent starts to close the margin Northwestern almost plays not to lose.
