Big Ten Power Rankings

I had to place the Badgers atop my list (no homer) because I didn't see anywhere possible where I could go with that. Wisconsin was on the ropes at home against a mediocre SEC team in Georgia, but pulled away in the second half, winning by almost 20. I was tempted to return MSU to the top after their impressive loss (if there is such a thing) against UCLA. However, they follow that up with a barnburner against Oakland of Michigan, at home. Indiana loses to an unranked mid major, by 15, on a neutral court. OSU gets embarrassed on a neutral court. There is no elite team in this conference. And the bottom 4 is putrid. The hardest part was assembling the order of: Michigan, Iowa, PSU, and Northwestern. They've all been so putrid, I can't possibly discern one from the other. Purdue and Illinois are the teams of the week, but I had to keep things status quo until they prove more, because I saw a gap in preseason following the top 4. Both have more to prove.

I can see you possibly putting them ahead of Indiana and Ohio State but no way are they better than Michigan State. Exactly what those Wisconsin have in the backcourt that makes them so superior? I know when MSU has but not the Badgers. I do not think that Wisconsin has superior overall talent than Sparty.

It's a Power Ranking, therefore part of the equation is performance based. Wisconsin didn't nearly lose to anyone as bad as Oakland this week, nor did they drop an exhibition to Grand Valley State for that matter. If Oakland hadn't given MSU trouble, they'd be ranked 1st in my poll. They were my #1 team in preseason (had Badgers third). It could be a short stay for the Badgers stemming from their date with Duke tomorrow.

As far as Wisconsin's backcourt, the team's best player, Trevon Hughes, comes from the backcourt. Have you seen Trevon Hughes play this year sir?

I agree with Bernini... in (my) theory a "Power Ranking" should be fluid depending on how teams are playing from week to week. If this were a poll it would probably be very close to the Big10 standings every week. I have no problems with Bernini playing the "homer" card in this instance as he justified his reasoning plus the Badgers had a very good week... I just about put them above MSU also because of the Oakland game.

I'm not sure how IU's losing by 15 to an unranked mid-major doesn't qualify as getting embarrassed in your book, whereas OSU's losing by 21 to a top-15 major conference opponent on a neutral court does. By the way, OSU's win over Syracuse in NYC is more impressive IMO than all of Wisconsin's wins combined.

I never said Indiana didn't get embarrassed. I thought, losing to an unranked mid major by 15 on a neutral court; spoke by itself.

As far as OSU is concerned, you can't just cherry pick wins. The loss to TAMU, of that magnitude, counteracted the impressive win (also Columbia performance and Findlay). Wisconsin doesn't play in a similar neutral court tournament this year where they'll have multiple swings of the bat. They do play in Maui next year though, and will get shot to prove they're the top team by beating either Duke or Texas on the road this year. Saying the Syracuse win is more impressive than all of Wisconsin's combined is just hyperbole.

No. Sorry I have missed him. However doesn't it take 2 players to make up a backcourt.

I am basing my power rankings on how strong I think that team is the day I rank them. Thank you

Michael Flowers is a 3rd year starter at the other guard spot.

You can rank teams however you want, as can I. And my reasoning for using that method is that everywhere I've seen, power rankings are separate entities from polls.

aTm could have won by 40 had they not emptied the bench and essentially given the Buckeyes a mercy pass. That was as thorough an ass-kicking as any of us is likely to see an Ohio State team suffer, now that O'Brien is out of town.

We were exposed, big time. Lots more development needed on this team. The potential is certainly there, though, to be a really good team later in the season.
