Big Ten Power Rankings

Count me in starting with the next poll. These first couple of polls are going to be tough...
Especially when Wiscy looked a lot better from what I watched of their game than MSU did in theirs. This is without knowing anything about the level of their competition.

Interesting to see the jump in the rankings between the first poll and this polll...

Most moved IU over MSU...

Kept us at 3rd, but Wisky sure closed the gap with their 4 impressive wins...

And Illinois moved ahead of Purdue...

Just some games to keep an eye on in the coming week...

Minn vs Iowa St. Tuesday
scUM @ Butler Wednesday
tOSU vs Cuse' Wednesday
PSU vs South Carolina Thursday
Iowa @ Bradley Friday
Wisky vs UGA Saturday

I think we might have a decent shot at the ACC this year...

Don't necessarily agree that this will be the breakthrough year against the ACC. Our 5th best team, the Illini, are thoroughly under-talented. Like last year, nobody on that team outside Pruitt is much of a threat to score the basketball (although they're playing pretty well against ASU right now). Their recruiting has been average the last couple of years. Squeaking a couple out against Hawaii and Northeastern doesn't do anything for me. I rated them 5th in part because Weber really gets players to play with togetherness, and maximize their talents. But also simply couldn't justify rating anybody else that high. Purdue returns some solid players like Kramer and Crump, however are simply over-reliant on freshmen who aren't of that superstar caliber (Gordon, Beasley, Mayo, etc.). Although Moore shows some promise to be near that level. Michigan will be better coached if nothing else factoring in Bielein's system at W. Va. Northwestern could be solid when Coble returns. I can't fathom the esteem for Iowa. That's scary if there are 4 teams worse in conference than the Hawkeyes. For all I knew that could have been the roster for Chico State.

I agree with this, but if Illinois is the fifth best team I think that makes the conference better in a way because I think that Purdue is a very solid team, and Minny, PSU, Iowa are solid teams that will bring up the rear of the conference...

From what I have seen of Purdue, they are awfully young and will need some time. I do not see Iowa as the 7th best team in the Big 10. Maybe 10 or even 11th. They are bad. I do not know if Northwestern's best player has returned to the team. He took a leave because of his mother's illness (breast cancer). They will not be very good without him but if he returns soon....
