its already out. at least in DC it is. picked it up at circuit city last night when I signed up for Directtv.

I went to the circuit city website and the HD DVR on there is the one that's been out for awhile. Could you give me the model #? If it's the HR20, that's not the new one.

That piece of trash HR20 is over a year old and doesn't even have DLB. It is the only MPEG-4 DVR that D* has ever offered. The HR21 is the new one, but no launch date has been set.

I talked to someone at Directv recently and it's supposed to be out around the beginning of the NFL season. If you hear anything please post it.

Best Directv Info

This link is to a discussion group regarding Directv and Directv DVRs.

After several hours on the horn with DTVs technjcal reps trying to solve a problem I was having and having no success, the tech rep litterly whispered to me to try this site where these guys might help me.

I went there, posted a question and I had my solution in 5 minutes.

These guys know their Directv like we know Ohio State football.

Rumored to be nearer Xmas at the very latest for the HR21. Hopefully the start of NFL season timeline is closer to the mark.
Oh, yes for those having acronym overload - DLB = Dual live buffers, which allows you to watch two games (shows) at once.

Props for mentioning these guys they absolutely positively know their stuff back to front. Go there first, register and search your issue before wasting time with D*'s automated menus.

OK. Prices for a guy in Westerville. Including whatever it takes to get BTN, and NFL Network, while we're at it.
Both are included in their basic package (Total Choice). I believe it's 40ish with free install/equipment, but there might be some promos to knock that price off, or get free dvrs and such.

heisman - one thing that we should be clear about for those wanting to get the whole HD deal at D* and the "best" option of a HD-DVR recorder. Just because the as yet unreleased HR21 has a higher model number may not mean that it is actually a technically better recorder.
In truth no-one knows what the feature set of the HR21 will actually be on release. I've seen rumors from "it must be an upgrade, with ..." name your wish-list item here; all the way to HR21 is a downgrade in terms of likely networking, ViiV, eSATA AND still no true DLB support. Hell, one early rumor had the device coming out with only one tuner! Not saying that is so, just saying no-one even at DBStalk.com really knows what this device will actually deliver and DirecTV is saying little of value on the subject.

I ordered DTV last night. I went with the choice extra package (the one right above the basic package you need for the BTN); I went with that package since it includes ESPN Classic, which I watch all the time, and National Geographic. I'll probably also check out VH1 Classic, Biography, and maybe one or two others.

I got DVR (not HD) on one TV.

The price was $0 down, $49.99 for the first 4 months, then $54.99. For signing up, I get $10 off of my bill for the first 10 months, a free portable DVD player, and free instillation.

I live in Fairfield (just north of Hamilton County), and it can't be installed until the 16th, so I would not wait too long to order if you want to see the first game.

Since I have DVR, it is a 2 year contract; without DVR it is a one year contract.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Ohio State Buckeyes kick off a new football season at home against Youngstown State in just 25 days. However, thousands of fans may not be able to watch the game on cable television.
The Big Ten Network is scheduled to televise the game, however, as of Tuesday neither Time Warner nor Insight Cable has reached a deal yet to carry the network, NBC 4 reported.
If a deal is not reached by the end of the month, only fans with Direct TV will be able to see the September 1 match-up on their home television.
