Just got an e-mail from the BTN saying DirecTV will carry it on channel 220...

I keep checking the channel everyday, when is the official kick-off day?

Big Ten Conference fans aren't the only ones keeping a close eye on the Big Ten Network.
Because the Big Ten will become the first Bowl Championship Series conference to launch its own television network Aug. 30, the other five major college sports conferences are studying the situation as they decide how to move forward with distributing information to their fans.

The BTN is scheduled to debut on the evening of August 30th.

The official launch of the Big Ten Network comes Aug. 30, two days before the kick-off of the 2007 Big Ten college football season. Big Ten Tonight, a nightly studio show hosted by Dave Revsine, will preview the upcoming season and closely examine all of the weekend's conference teams in action.

Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman said the "Greatest Games" series honors the legacy of the conference's recent past, and will be a consistent presence year-round. "We know that these are the games that our fans talk about most, and we know they will love to see them time and again," he said.

The series premieres August 30 at 9 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. CT, with the 2006 Ohio State-Michigan "Game of the Century" before settling into its regular time slot with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday nights beginning at 6 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. CT.

Just ordered DirecTV today specifically because of the B10 network and the games I wouldn't be able to see (especially here in OKC). I'm ready for football season.

If you haven't already, make sure you get the HD dish because most of their games will be in HD...

Good advice, though if tbs ordered HD it should automatically come with the HD dish.

But DTV has been known to make a mistake or three in their time.

tbs said "Just ordered DirecTV today specifically because of the B10 network"...he didn't mention HD specifically, thus my reminder.

For any new subscribers to Directv, you should request a 5-LNB dish. This way you will be ready for the future HD broadcasts. I'm not sure what their policy is and what dish they would provide you with. I know it never hurts to be proactive in these matters. I will be upgrading to the 5-LNB dish soon, as I am waiting for the new HD DVR to be introduced. It is supposed to have greater capacity. When you view the enclosed link, click on the Dish and it gives you 2 styles.

Ok, so I am sure this has been answered already but I don't want to read all 22 pages to find it. Will the local channels (10 or 6) be showing the games or do I need to switch to Direct tv? I have Time Warner and I know they don't have the BTN, so I was just wondering if the Columbus channels would carry the games all year. Or are they going to be blacked-out? :(

The nutshell is this -
ABC will have the Michigan game, probably the PSU game and Wisky.. whatever...
ESPN might take a game or two, as might ESPN II (and maybe ESPN U, I hope not)
BTN will have ... what is it now... 5 games? They are the ONLY ones who will carry those games. YSU, for example, will not be on 6 or 10... only BTN.

Seems to be the safe play.

I gotta believe the BTN and TW have to come to terms. BTN can't be on a few thousand TVs in Columbus, and TW has a huge share here. BTN, if they've done any homework, should know TW will dig its heels in (Sinclair)... and I just don't think the BTN can work if it doesn't come to terms with the main provider of fan bases like OSU. Advertising dollars won't come flowing when the viewing is low owing to limited availability.
