Isn't there somebody here to tell us we all have an entitlement complex? Or do I have to go to the O-Zone for that?

Rational thought goes out the window when you start talking about missing games. Ask my wife. She set our wedding date way in advance many moons ago and with my head obviously in the wrong place I didn't notice it was the same day as The Game.

Once she figuerd out I was dead serious about not being at the wedding untill after 3:30 PM (kick used to always be noon) our relationship was well defined and off to a proper start. We ended up getting married at 7 PM same night, good comprimise if you ask me. Wedding guests were a bit put out with the last minute changes but fuck em, they were just pain in the ass in-laws in the making anyway.

Special message.

Get the Big Ten Network and dump 90% of the garbage channels you already make me pay for (like Oh!, lifetime, WGN, BET, HSN...) Do we really need 2 CSPANs? How about the two or three FX channels I get? Replace one of them!!!

Keep the king's ransom I already pay you for your service, dump those channels and just get me the BTN (we'll even pay extra), or I dump you for DirectTV and never come back. Me and about a 1000 other people.

And don't send me the stupid form letter- have a real person call me or I'm switching for sure.
They have until the 14th, at which I'll get DirectTV, if I haven't already.

It's funny. I just did the exact opposite. After years of satellite service, I have switched back to Comcast. I've done so because I'm tired of less than desirable picture quality, and having viewed my new picture for 2 weeks, I can say it far exceeds what I've gotten from DirecTV. And because I get far better internet service. ...all for less than what I was paying before. I have watched every Buckeye football game for the last several years (can't even remember how many, but I've had GamePlan since it's inception) in my home theater room, but I will obviously have to venture out of my cave to see a few games this year. Who knows, maybe I'll make a few new friends and discover that the outside world has grown since the last time I saw it.

The other unknown for you Mili is whether D* will show the YSU vs. tOSU game (or Akron for that matter) as the preferred game going into the Hawaii market.

BTN has been saying that DirecTV will indeed carry the other games on "overflow" channels...

3. Anyone think T-W is going to cave before the season begins?

I have been in the camp that believe they would, but time is getting short. Folks are not going to wait till the last minute to switch providers. I am going to ride it out only because I have season tix and wont be missing anything. Otherwise I would have already made my appointment with DirectTV.

You will definitely see all the BTN games on directv. The only question is how long it will take them to roll out the entire HD entourage.

...and to think I almost disowned my brother for getting married the same day we reamed Pitt 70-(-3) or something like that.

People, this should be a wakeup call to all of us. When a good man like Jax gets into this situation, it is proof positive that we need to maintain a running countdown of the number of days to The Game.

Or maybe Jax just needs to get a freakin' calendar.

Per this morning's Dispatch TW is trying to broker a deal to broadcast the first two games for free while the broader issues are being worked out.

Can't imagine Direct TV will be happy about this.

Big Ten Network: Games might be shown without deal

Friday, August 10, 2007 6:32 AM
By Mike Pramik and Molly Willow

The Columbus Dispatch

Time Warner Cable might show Ohio State's football opener against Youngstown State, even though the cable company hasn't reached an agreement with the Big Ten Network.

Time Warner, which serves two-thirds of wired homes in Ohio, including some 600,000 in central Ohio, said it would consider showing the Youngstown State game Sept. 1 and the Akron game Sept. 8 on one of its basic cable channels without a Big Ten Network deal.

I'd say that, too, if I were about to hemorrhage loyal customers.

I called Direct TV today, and here's what they told me:

The choice package (w/BTN, NFL Network):

$49.99/mo for 4 mos > $54.99 mo, 185 channels
free install in four rooms
free DVR or HD upgrade on one receiver
$50 VISA gift card
$10 off per mo for 1st ten mos
install w/i 1 week
I think for us worked out to $69.99/mo long run, b/c we'd get in four rooms and there's an addy charge for each receiver monthly. That's a good $20 more than what I pay right now, all because of this stupid Pig Ten Network.

Yup, that was my guess all along...that this would impact folks much more so than ESPNU in the long run. Oh well, at least this network is doing their games in HD, I applaud them for that. It does make you wonder if all the big name conferences will create their own network. I know the SEC chairmen stated at their media days that he would like to consider it.

If the major conferences ultimately create a network, that would seem to be a major plus for the sports addict, but not so much for the thrifty folks. As with so many other things, it will be fun to watch this play out.

My D* rep said they have acquired all their new sats out in space and the last one launched in April is up and running. She said D* is shooting for Sept 1 as their date to turn on their new HD service, capable of given the viewer over 180+ channels of HD... Without that many actual TV studios in HD, I see it just being a TON of FOX/NBC/ABC/ESPN/BTN HD overflow.

I am going to look for confirming literature on this....

Big Ten Network and Cable Companies Remain at Odds
UNDATED (AP) -- This should be a banner year for the Big Ten. The problem is, few may get a chance to see it.

The Big Ten's new television network is struggling to reach agreements with cable providers in the Midwest, and the clock is ticking toward the September First openers.

The two sides can't seem to agree whether the channel should be offered in basic expanded cable packages.
