Just got my DirecTV HD upgrade. I expected one of the following dishes to replace my non-HD dish:

satellitedish_enlarge.jpg


But the Slimline isn't available in Hawaii, so I ended getting two huge ass white dishes (one for HD, the other for regular)...my roof looks like a frickin' TV broadcast station.

Yep, the 2 dish need, that is also true for D* in Alaska as well.
So do they look like these - but with a DirecTV logo?

BTN likely to be cast off as quick as ESPNU

Last October, the Ohio State football team hosted Indiana in a relatively nondescript midseason Big Ten game. But it became hugely important to Buckeyes fans when the game was broadcast only on ESPNU, a station to which cable subscribers didn't have access.
All that week, we ran lists of sports bars and restaurants in the paper that would be showing the game, which ended up a 44-3 rout.

This is a start of an attempt to provide football games on line to those of you who are overseas. There are several sites that have free tv with 1,000s of channels. There are others that have fees but I can look at those later. For now here is one that has a lot of sports channels and is free.

Big Ten TV negotiations in time bind Cable TV companies face more competition

Jim Delany, commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, said in a call a couple of months back that if the Big Ten Network wasn't carried on Time Warner Cable by the first of August, he would have to tell the league's rabid sports fans to turn to other sources to find the channel once it launches.
In other words, Delany was willing to tell fans to go to DirecTV or to AT&T U-verse. He knows that people who love their sports really love their sports.

BTN is just like The MTN. here, for those not in the loop MTN= says mountain. The 'mountain' network is for the Mountain West Conference and is ran exactly like the BTN. Only The MTN debuted last year here in Vegas to a very horribly enraged viewership. Not to mention someone in the Exec office forgot that TCU played in the MWC and never offered Texas cable companies a deal... so what was left?

Cox refuses to pick up the channel (no UNLV games televised, EVER The MTN has SOLE RIGHTS to MWC games)so no one in Vegas gets ANY MWC games for any sport.

TCU fans in Texas dont even get a say, they just cant get it, period.

Any non-conference game goes to The MTN first, then they may sell off the game (fat chance), hope tOSU never comes to play UNLV at Sam Boyd (at least I could by the comfy suite for $1500 (50 yard line, third row unreserved was $24 last year.).

All in all, I am happy the BTN is working out and I can at least get it. My experience here in Vegas with D.TV is since I ordered the sports package, I also get FSN Ohio, FSN Cinncy, SportsTalkOhio, ESPNU and CSTV. So the skinny is, I pay $18 a month total more than I did at Cox Cable but picked up multiple Ohio/College sports channels plus the addition of 120 regular channels I could not get before.

I lost my point, oh yeah. Atleast BTN isn't as bad a disaster as The MTN is/was.

The BTN will be as big a deal as ESPNU was for that one game last season during football Saturdays. Outside of that, people are about as excited as they are about this season's ESPNU football schedule ? which includes the big Benedict-Kentucky State tilt.

DIRECT TV AND THE BIG TEN NETWORK

I want to inform anyone.Who is going to try to get direct TV.I ordered it on Thur's the 8th .I got the NFL Sunday ticket and all 250 channels it came to 69 a month for the first 4 mo .The guy say when will u like it installed he says is tomorrow OK which was Fri one day after i ordered it .I say sure great so he looks at his computer and says o not sure what is going on .I cant get and install date now .But someone will call u in 72 hrs to set it up i say OK .So today its way past 72 hrs no one called so i call .I say hey no one has call for my install date he says let me look at the account i say OK.He comes back on and says oh we cant install till the 17th of September .I i said what that is 38 days from when i ordered it i said do u know football starts on sept 1 .And this is the only reason i ordered Ur service .He says sorry it the best we can do so i say give me a supervisor.So the supervisor comes on and she say yes this is the soonest we can install.I say why didn't anyone tell me this when i ordered and u took my money.Because if they would have i wouldn't have order it i will miss 3 games do u realize this .She says yes I'm sorry we are so far behind in Ur area which is Columbus .I said to her why didn't any one tell me this when i ordered she says they wouldn't know that .I said OK but now that u know it are u going to tell people from now on She says no I'm not I said well if that is how u do business just cancel my order and refund my money which she said OK it will take 5 days.So for anyone wanting direct TV for the NFL sunday ticket and the big ten net . Ur going to miss at least 3 weeks of games due to the back load of install.Iwas so pissed and this totally sucks
