Big Ten Conference Divisions

Fucking idiots!!

And to some of you younger Buckeye fans, stop with the god damned rationalizations. There are absolutely times where The Game will now be used as a fucking bye week to prepare for a CCG (and very soon, fucking playoffs). Quit telling me that "Tressel would never do that". He may not, but the guy after him sure as fuck will. Hell John Cooper would have, so shut the fuck up. Christ!

It is plainly evident. As we move more towards an NFL style of organizing college football, what the fuck do you think is going to happen? It's going to start resembling the fucking NFL. I warned about this repeatedly years ago in the "playoffs in college football" threads here, and was not taken seriously. It's here. It's going to happen. And it's fucking horrible.

Hey, at least in the years when we both suck, The Game will 'mean' something...:roll1:

Here's a nightmare scenario:

OSU and the scUMweasels meet in THE GAME, both having clinched division championships. Neither coach wants to tip his hand, so we end up with a 3-hour festival of crap, where neither team is actually trying to win the game because it will be repeated in seven days, at which point it will actually MEAN something. 3-2 win for one side or the other, and nobody gives a shit because we get to watch the real game next week.

That is un-fucking-conscionable.

I would hardly qualify as a "younger" buckeye fan, but thanks! I agree they should be in seperate divisions, but the day that The Game is treated as a "bye week" is the day when I will quit watching college football. I don't believe that it will happen. I repeat, this rivalry goes beyond football. It goes to the very core of what we are about as people from both Ohio and TSUN. I believe that this will always be a hard fought battle, especially considering how coaches have been hired and fired for how they do against the other team...

Are they calling the announcement "The Divisions"?

As I scroll through this thread I see a whole lot of "worst case scenario's" being moaned about.

If the divisions reported are correct this is the reality:
Every so often (2,5,10 years, who knows ) The Game will played twice, with the result of the first being diminished by the second.

When that doesn't happen (most of the time) we still get The Game, on the last week, same as before.

When it does happen, we're probably MNC contenders, or are at least Big Televetwelven contenders.

Tradition is everything in CFB, especially to a team like tOSU. But for the sake of moving forward as a conference, and giving our teams more preparation for bowl games, exposure to pollsters, etc., I can accept this change.

We still get The Game, every year, when it should be.

Oh yeah, and< 26.5 hours 'til Buckeye Football:biggrin::osu::oh:

Well get ready then. The day will come when we are sitting at let's say a 6 seed going into The Game, with a potential matchup @ somewhere like Tennessee. But, if we take the week off and lose to scUM, to get healthy for a CCG and only fall to a 7 seed, we will go to, let's say Pitt for the first round of these awesome new playoffs they have in store for us. I'd take that Pitt game in front of only 65k hostile fans instead of at Tennessee and 100k+ hostile fans every time, because it's not about rivalry and tradition anymore. It's about postseason play! It is absolutely going to happen. There is no denying that now... And frankly anyone who can't see it coming is in serious fucking denial.

Obviously I'm not going to spell out an entire season's worth of scenarios that would set this in motion, but it will happen someday. And it's a fucking disgrace.

And why do I take the time to write fuck when I can't even see it!!! Fuck!!!

Fuck all of that.... every last bit. The best part about The Game is that its ONCE. One freaking time do you have the opportunity to beat scUM in that year.

The rest of the year you get to hang it over your opponents head and brim with joy for the next 364 days.

Like the HBO special said, every critical holiday falls on the same day (or same week) every year, everytime, like clock-work. Tradition, something you can set your watch by. Now its all going to hell...

You are making the incorrect assertion that if there were a playoffs, the other teams seeding would be set in stone and that we would react to that. This is clearly incorrect because the other teams would still be in the same fluid situation of playing their last game or two of the season plus their possible CCG, all of which would affect a hypothetical(all it is at this point) playoff seeding. So under no scenario would either participants of The Game be sandbagging it just to jostle for playoff seeding w ideal matchups, as none of that seeding would be anywhere near set in stone.

I see a few theories here. There are two of them that would be VERY interesting.

2006- Buckeyes won 42-39. Rematch happens in Indy and Michigan wins something like 31-28. There would be a lot of chaos there.

Say the Buckeyes are 11-0 and have clinched their division. Michigan is 10-1 or 9-2 and have clinched their divison. So they play this game also knowing they will be playing for the big ten championship. It doesn't take a genius to figure how the game means more to OSU than Michigan. Michigan could cruise and then let it all hang in the big ten championship. Michigan clips OSU in the championship after losing the week before. Gets a trip to the Rose Bowl when both teams split and OSU has the better record.

Michigan and OSU make each other so miserable it's not even funny. That's why we hate each other among other things. Both teams would have more national championships if they didn't play each other. To get to a national championship, they had to beat the other. More times than not, it meant a big ten championship. The big ten was decided on the LAST GAME of the fucking season more times than not. It meant a trip to the Rose Bowl. Even when one team was below their normal standards, they could make it up for it by upsetting the other team and knocking other other from a "dream" season. It has happened to both teams.

1950, 1968 (couldn't go for three), 1969, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2006, the Woody-Bo wars, the 90s, senior tackle, Script Ohio, Mirror Lake, Hail to the Victors, Woodson vs Boston, The Heisman pose, gold pants, 1986- Harbaugh's guarantee, 2001-Tressel's statement, Biakabutuka's big day, and that 3rd week in November.

Thanks Big Ten for fucking it up. They should only play once and they should be in the same division. Oh well, maybe in the future if the big ten adds more teams they can switch over.

On a side note- Michigan's 2012 schedule could have Alabama, ND, Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, and Wisconsin or Penn St. or maybe even both......yeah it's tough being a Wolverine right now.

Outrage.

WTF?!!!

The ESpinheads are reporting:

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that the two divisions in the Big Ten will look like:

  • Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota.
  • Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.
The Big Ten issued a press release saying it would announce its divisional alignment at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday. According to sources, the divisions were decided upon Monday.

I couldn't be more upset. So...this will be Gene Smith's legacy. And Pres. Gee? I just lost all respect for Dr. Bowtie. I am severely [censored]ed.

There should be universal outrage from all Buckeye fans if The Game isn't the last regularly scheduled game of the season. Period.

What I'm hearing is that that will be the divisional breakup, but OSU and Michigan will still play the last week of the regular season. FWIW.
