Big Ten Conference Divisions

I have no idea how this is possible with a computer, digital poll on a website, but how can the poll on the Big Ten Network equal 98 percent?

66 + 24 + 8 = 100?

I didn't realize there was a margin for error on a computer poll. And who are the eight percent who don't think OSU-Michigan should play every year? Penn State/SEC fans?

Big Ten Network

If this is a mistake, I find it ironic that a conference so influenced by numbers -- to the point they'd move a traditional rivalry -- cannot seem to get numbers correct on its TV website.

Possible that the numbers are percentage points, but they always round down??

Like 66.7, 24.8 and 8.5? That'd equal 100.

Now at 66, 25, 8 % so they must have got the memo about the math issue.
Big Ten Network

It has been said if a pollster crafts the questions in just the right way he can build a survey that justifies about anything he wants.
Seriously, quite a bit of public relations and marketing entered the pollsters thinking when the poll was crafted.
Does anyone else care that the BTN poll was contrived so as to manipulate public sentiment and eventually justify the Big announcement?
When polls use language "giving ultimatum", they do so not to measure but to skew public opinion.
"Must" is one of those ultimatum words.
"Should", "could" make people feel good, they are giving permission.
Finally "need" is another trigger device attempting to skew Opinion.
It is amazing that even with the BTN attempt to manipulate public opinion, 2/3rds still strongly oppose anything other than "the GAME" as the finale.

Listened to Gene Smith on the Buckeye Show on WBNS-FM Tuesday. He said he wouldn't reveal anything about what he was negotiating for, even when pressed multiple times by host Anthony Rothman.

The thing is, I personally have no idea what side he's on in the negotiations. I'm sure the easy answer would be the side of money, but who knows.

Who knows if he's even negotiating when games are played, it could be just revenue (he's negotiating).

And everyone's getting in on the debate (ESPN.com poll again on CFB section)

I have it on good authority (my source will remain nameless) that the divisions have been voted on in a 'majority rules' fashion. Since Nebraska is obviously directly affected by this, they were allowed to vote on this matter despite not officially becoming a member until July 1, 2011. It's well established that the BigTen has been known as the big 2 and little 8(9), and there has been some resentment about that building for decades. This has really come to a head in the division split and things got quite heated in the negotiations. So, believe it or not, the divisions are as follows:

Big Division:
Ohio State
Michigan

Ten Division:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan State
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern
Penn State
Purdue
Wisconsin

Now for the crazy part. We will get our wish that The Game will remain the last regular season game of the year. But, it will also be our first conference game. In fact, each season we will play three non-conference games and then play Michigan 9 times. Best out of nine plays in the CCG agains the round-robin winner of the Ten Division. What could be better than one OSU-Mich game? No, not two OSU-Mich games, but 9 OSU-Mich games!

Reports that we're looking at this:

MSU, Mich, Neb, NU, Iowa, Min
OSU, Wis, IL, IU, PSU, PU

The Game will remain as the last game of the season.

Only rumors, of course, but the idea that our schedule will include Wisc, PSU, and Mich1gAAn every year... damn!

Not that the skunkweasels have it any better; OSU, Nebraska, Iowa...
If that happens, I'd like to see a protected (new) rivalry game between Nebraska and Wisc.

If the Game is still the last one of the season I guess it isn't the worst thing in the world. I still think they should be in the same division, but just as is the case where rematches aren't very likely, I think it would be very VERY unlikely for that last regular season game to be a throw away game from a conference perspective (aka a game where it doesn't matter what the result is in terms of whether there is a rematch the next week or not)
