Big Ten Basketball Thread

The funny thing is, with how bad sparty is playing, scUM should be up 15 points, instead they're only up 5 with 2:30 to go. Instead of playing smart offense, they contiinue to chuck up reckless three pointers when all they need to do is run down the clock and get two. It's unbelievable how dumb that entire basketball team is. From the coaches, right down to the players...just plum dumb.

Douglass with the dagger. It takes sparty playing one of the absolute worst games of basketball I've ever seen for them to eek out a win. They should have won by 15+, but they don't understand basic basketball strategy at all.

Flipped over to the Illini/Hoosier game on BTN and this is borderline unwatchable. Over the last 10 minutes this game has seen more turnovers than FGs. Only thing making it interesting is Gus amping up the energy level whenever Indiana drains a three and the crowd erupts.

I cannot believe what's happened to this conference since the preseason. Purdue, Illinois, and Michigan St are all dog shit. Minnesota, with only eight players, and Penn St may actually be the third and fourth best (or most dangerous) teams after OSU and Wisky.

:slappy:

With 16.7 seconds left and trailing by a point, Illinois whips the ball around as nobody wants to take a shot. Tisdale receives the ball in the paint with the shot clock ticking to zero and promptly throws it out of bounds as the clock expires.

Last three Illinois possessions: Tisdale TO trying to dribble, Tisdale blocked on a bunny and knocked on his ass, Tisdale TO trying to pass with :00 on the shot clock.

I can't believe it either. Until this past week, I wasn't too high on tOSU's chances of running the table. I feel like it's actually quite doable now. It's like 1/2 of the conference has been eating retard sandwiches. Just some dumb basketball being played.

I'm not there yet. OSU is clearly the class of the conference, but there's a few roadies coming up that aren't going to be cakewalks, particular at the Kohl Center.

So the Ill/Ind game was 32-30 at the half, and ended with a 49-52 final. Neither team scored in the first five minutes of the 2nd half, and the two teams combined for 39 points in the second half.

From the Izzo postgame, (paraphrasing) 'We're going to turn into an Ohio State-type team and we're not going to be playing so many guys. Our depth is in our bigs and everybody is playing small'

Oh, I'm not calling it or anything. But, if you asked me on Monday if I thought they could roar through 18-0, I'd have said "not a chance in hell", but with some of the ball I've seen played these past few nights, I do see it as a possibility...even if it's a slim one. Wiscy is always a bear and I think that's the biggest threat. Followed by, and I cannot believe I'm typing this, PSU. I know all it takes is an off night to go down, and I do think it'll happen, but good God, some of these teams are a mess right now.

That's an epic choke job, even by Tisdale's standards. Now they'll never tell him where the weight room is.

I couldn't believe the slop I was watching from two (and one as of late, former) of our conferences usual basketball contenders. MSU was just...well they might as well have not even shown up to the arena, even though scUM looked they were desperately trying to give them the win close to the end. Illinois couldn't handle the ball to save their lives, and neither could IU, it seemed. After the Purdue game, that's 5 teams that I have watched play some of the worst ball of the year in the league. Four of those teams I would never expect that from, no matter how down on "talent" they are.

Clearly Tisdale is the Illini's go to player... right? McCamey needs to step up in those situations. Even though I hate Indiana basketball it's (kind of) good to see Crean starting to right the ship. It was funny watching the Indiana students rush the court after beating a team ranked outside of the top 20.

I've said it since the beginning of Big Ten play: Individually, each game is very winnable with this squad. As a whole I see them dropping one or two. Three toughest games remaining are @ the Kohl Center, @ the Barn and @ Mackey Arena. If I chose one of those as the loss I'd say @ Minnesota.

I agree but I dont think the Minny game will be the loss. Without Nolen, they really have nobody that will be able to consistently even get them into their offense with Craft hounding them. Although it was interesting to see them start all 3 of their bigs and play a pretty nasty zone with them. I definitely see the Kohl center and Mackey as 2 potential losses; Kohl because Wisky plays that damn "burn" offense and hardly ever loses Big 10 games and Mackey b/c they were really embarrassed by us the other night and I expect a hell of an effort from Purdon't.
