Big Ten Basketball Thread

Bad day for Purdue athletics.

Basketball team goes down to Richmond in some early-season tournament.
Not only was Hummel their best player, he was their glue. There is still enough talent there that Purdue, when they play well, they can beat anyone, but they'll probably lose a few that will have you scratching your head.

Forget the turkey, just watch Wisconsin basketball.

They won 50-35 over Manhattan this afternoon.
Buenema and the Bucky boys from the Gridiron, may outscore the Ryans Cagers on the season, in 13 games  Of course that doesn't mean that Wiscy won't have a very good year in BBall.

Wisconsin gagged an 11 point lead to lose to Notre Dame 58-51 in the Old Spice Classic Final (they went on like a 15-0 run in the last 4 minutes)

Northwestern picked up a decent win 65-52 over Creighton

I don't believe Purdue has enough talent to beat legit top-25 teams. I think Purdue is going to be the most disappointing team in the Big Ten this year. Yeah, they lost Hummel and they probably would not have been rated as highly as they were in the preseason had he (instead of being injured) graduated after last season. They are still rated in the top-25 but I really don't think they belong there. Purdue's players other than Johnson and Moore are not average, they are ALL below average Big Ten players - I think they'll struggle mightily this season. Matt Painter is going to draw criticism this year because, since the big 2007 class, he just hasn't gotten the type of talent that you win a lot of games in the Big Ten with, and it's really going to show by season's end. I think UM will finish ahead of Purdue in the Big Ten this season, especially since John Hart (arguably Purdue's 3rd-best player) is injured and going to miss the next 4-6 weeks (which coincides with the start of Big Ten play). I wouldn't be surprised if Purdue, Iowa and PSU are the worst three teams in the Big Ten this year.

:shake: I think you are a little off with regard to this remark. It is not Painter's fault that Hummel, probably his best player, has missed the last two seasons. Also, if they finish below Penn State, Iowa and meetchicken I will be shocked.

Hummel was in the 2007 recruiting class.

my point with regard to Hummel is if he had been healthy for the past couple years their team would be a lot better. I also believe that they already have some recruits, who are pretty good, that have already verballed in the next few years. To fire Painter would be asinine based upon his record because of a player's injury.
