Too bad. Always liked the kid's game.

Best wishes to Coble in his life after basketball.
Indeed. When he was on, he was tough to guard. 'Cats are gonna miss him, but he'll get far with that NW education.

Good luck to Coble! Extremely hard decision for him, I'm sure.

I also hate to see him end his basketball career at Northwestern. I wonder if his surgeon advised him that his foot might not be able to take the beating of another basketball season even though he doesn't come out and say that. I will never forget the game he had at Michigan State when Northwestern one a couple years ago... he was Larry Bird like. Have to feel sorry for the rest of the guys on the team also because with Evan this would have been an NCAA tournament team. The best to him out of the basketball arena.
Good Luck Kevin!

Going to Iowa State. Must be easier academically.
Dispatch

Former Michigan State guard Chris Allen says he plans to enroll at Iowa State this fall and begin playing basketball for the Cyclones starting in the 2011-12 season.

Earlier this month, Michigan State announced Allen, who started 27 games for the Spartans last season, wouldn't return next season.

Guard Bo Spencer transfers to Nebraska after ruled academically ineligible at LSU

Point guard Bo Spencer is transferring to Nebraska after having been declared academically ineligible at LSU.

Spencer would have been LSU's top returning scorer this season, with 14.5 points a game, but coach Trent Johnson announced in May that Spencer would be ineligible.

Spencer averaged 11.4 points in 2008-09 as LSU won the Southeastern Conference championship and made the NCAA tournament.

Nebraska coach Doc Sadler announced the arrival of Spencer and four other walk-ons Monday. Spencer will be a senior when he becomes eligible at Nebraska in 2011-12.

Boy, LSU was abysmal last year, but Spencer's stats (from the '09 conference champ version of LSU at least) make it seem like he will be a very good addition for Nebraska. I am thinking Nebraska is putting themselves in position to make a little bit of noise in what figures to be a down year for the Big Ten in '11-12. Nebraska finished last in the Big 12 last season and lost their leading scorer off that team, but they have almost everyone else coming back for this season and will lose only a couple role players off this season's team. Ignoring the number of games played (there was an injury redshirt for one of their key role players last season & another key player had to sit out the first half of the season), they had 12 guys average at least both 9 minutes and 3 points last season, and 8 of those 12 project to be on their roster when they start Big Ten play in '11-12. So they figure to have a pretty deep and experienced team when they join the Big Ten, and the addition of Spencer is only going to help them. Hopefully the Huskers fare reasonably well in the Big 12 this season so it wouldn't reflect poorly on the Big Ten if they fared reasonably well their first year in the Big Ten.

I don't think it was a good read. I believe it said the best case was a Big Ten title for OSU. That is simply not true. The best case scenario is a national title for OSU. I am somewhat surprised that ESPN would use a blogger for analysis. At least they should have the dignity to make their personalities attach their names to the company line, instead of a blogger who if he's wrong will not suffer any consequences.

I am sick and tired of the national media putting down OSU, saying they're not on the level of Purdue and MSU (and in Gottlieb's case, Illinois) - that's ridiculous. OSU proved last year they were on the level of Purdue and MSU, so there's little reason to think they aren't as good as those other two teams that each lost more starters than OSU did.

I think we must have read different articles. The one I read seemed very complimentary.

Max, do you think a blogger is going to say anything really seriously negative? He doesn't really know basketball, he is a blogger. Him putting Purdue and MSU ahead of OSU this season is a mistake, and that's clearly what Brennan did and if you read the whole piece, he apparently doesn't think it's close between the three teams. He said MSU and Purdue have a best case of winning the national title whereas OSU has a best case of winning the Big Ten. That's a lousy opinion in light of what happened last season and the fact that Jared Sullinger is freaking awesome. I can't believe any of these people picking OSU 3rd or 4th in the league really understand and appreciate the talent that is on the OSU roster. I hate to see media types put MSU and Purdue a notch ahead of OSU this season, because it's inappropriate. OSU proved everyone wrong last year by tying those teams for the regular season conference title and winning the Big Ten tournament ... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Shame on Brennan, as he's set himself up to be fooled again.

You think, and I do too, that Jared Sullinger is going to have a tremendous positive impact on the Buckeyes this season. But claiming this guy "doesn't know basketball" because he picks the Bucks to trail two top-10 teams (Boilers and Sparty) who have lots of returning talent, while we lose the second pick in the NBA draft -- I just think you're being way harsh.

The fact we don't agree with Adam Rittenberg doesn't mean his opinion is "lousy." Get some perspective here, and recognize we're both Buckeye homers (as it should be!). :wink2: :osu:
