Rice has a few check marks, the others none at all. Rice would fit right into CIC but it ends there.
Texas is the only one that fits the profile as a large flagship with research and athletics.

In the meantime Nebraska isn't getting any better, while recruiting, tv rights, etc. on that end are practically non-existent.
We've basically entered a situation where the small part of the old conference that is still flourishing has broken off as the East Division and added a few new suitors.... while the West is largely left to languish. Adding 2 more schools from the Coastline would solidify that trend moving Indiana over to the West. I don't see a problem for Ohio State there... we're flourishing, and we're in the flourishing half with the rich recruiting and tv rights. The future is bright for Ohio State regardless whose added.
But it's not good for the overall conference, which will try to adapt and balance with its last 2 additions. And that does lead straight to a footprint in Texas, and all indications from conference confirm that's indeed how they see it as well.

As for cultural conflicts - that's already over. The Midwest has already been split down the middle and realigned with the likes of PSU, Maryland, New Jersey.
You seen any statues of known slavers on the Maryland or Rutgers campuses? The one at PSU has been hauled away though there may soon be a "softer" version placed in the town.

With all respect, if you haven't spent time in Texas or other parts of the Deep South you have no idea of the depth of feeling regarding the Civil War, the history of the Confederacy and the reverence of the leaders of the revolt, but what you really don't know about is the deep seated hatred of Yankees.

Put on your dress blues and join me for a couple rounds of bourbon, war stories, sports bull shit and good times at what passes for an O Club at Ft. Bliss and after Colonel Billy Joe Bob, his staff and the LTs get into their third round you'll hear the veneer come peeling off and you'll find out that what's really wrong with the U.S. is really just Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and the East Coast.

I want no part of that in the Big Ten.

I've spent time in Florida panhandle and Mississippi so it's nothing new to me.
Fair enough, but the problem still remains and I still see the Conference - especially with a guy like Delany running it - trying to address that problem by expanding into Texas.
IMO UT/OU end up in the PAC anyway - where they can bring 2 other doormats and setup shop in a Division made up of CU, Utah, Arizona, ASU.
Barring that, SEC is still more likely.
Suggesting to join the B1G over on Shaggy is just asking to have a full red bar. But it does remain the Harbaugh-esque pipe-dream silver-bullet for the conference, replete with overlooking Harbaugh's well documented and obvious character flaws.
All the options from the ACC amount to declaring that the Old Big Ten is beyond saving, and basically forming a new 8-team conference that happens to have a 2-game scheduling agreement with our previous associates and the opportunity to remind them how far they've fallen in Indianapolis every year - assuming the CCG even stays out there.

Now is the time to snag the big 12 teams we want. They have to be upset and worried. If we approach the two we wanted, it would be hard for them to say no with what's going on in that conference.

A bigger, stronger, conference is going to be better with the playoffs going forward. Just move Purdue to the East and call it a day. I guess it would mean less B1G championships in theory, because now there are 15 other teams to compete with. But I think the chance to improve the conference offsets that...plus if your gonna be good, you got to be able to win a division of 8.

Based on the last year? I guess.
A lot more goes into it than just being good for a couple years though. Personally, wouldn't want either.

I don't want any Big XII teams. I want Georgia Tech and Virginia.
