The one thing I'm wondering about is if the Big Ten factors in vacated games in compiling overall records (to divide the schools).

Remember when Jim Delany came out -- before Nebraska started -- and said the conference was using records since Penn State came into the league in the 90's to divide schools.

If the Big Ten uses that same method, and doesn't use vacated games, Penn State goes from Top 4 to maybe 7-8 in the conference.

Since the Catholic 7 would be a group that's been playing in a conference together of more then 5 teams in the same conference, they would retain their automatic bid, even if they dissolved the Big East.

What I see happening - they dissolve the Big East (since they are 7 out of 10 full voting members, they alone can do so), and keep the name. New Big East adds Xavier, Creighton, and Dayton/St. Louis (or both Dayton and St. Louis, with a 12th team in there somewhere... Gonzaga? Butler?) to form a nice b-ball conference of smaller schools with good history.
If the Catholic 7 were to add Xavier, Dayton, Creighton, Gonzaga and Saint Louis, they'd then be the Catholic 12. It would be a great hoops conference.

Speaking out of ignorance here, but what conference is Rutgers in?

I understand that they have announced their intent to leave the Big East and join the B1G starting in 2014. But where are they now? Do they not have a vote in any Big East meetings? Could they not show up at a Big East meeting and disrupt the Catholic schools plans? Or to be more precise, clarify that they are considering their options in light of what is done vis a vis any exit fee? And if the Big East denies them a vote are they not throwing them out of the conference?

I am sure this is all clarified in legalese somewhere. Just thinking out loud. (Well, not really out loud. I am just thinking out typing.)

From ESPiN article:
With all of the Big East's recent defections, only 10 members (the seven non-FBS schools plus Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida) can vote on the league dissolving.

None of the transition schools have a vote because they're either leaving, and don't have a say in the future of the conference, or they're not members yet. I believe the Catholic 7 rushing to get this done is because this is the only time they'll have the numbers to get their agenda pushed through.

I think the Catholic 7 would just merge with the A10 Catholics (Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, Xavier) plus Creighton for 16. Or 14 without Creighton and Saint Louis, then they would be east of Mississippi and north of Mason-Dixon.

IMHO..Anything that would take away the chance for tOSU to thump scUM in the BCG is a fucking joke. Delaney will become the dumbest conference leader in history by allowing it to happen. Why would gifting a CG appearance to whatever team from the opposing division ever be considered? Not to mention ratings..What possible match up in the BCG could possibly out rank tOSU vs scUM? Maybe they have no desire to make the BCG the most watched BIG game of the year...hell it might not even be in the top 5 with this approach.

I also tend to be prefer the Ohio State & TSUN in the same division option. Would (IMO) be less detrimental to The Game & would also serve to help other teams (Nebraska and/or PSU for example) to cave out their own identity within the conference.

I'm not 100% wedded to it as I once was but still lean pretty strongly in that direction.

add texas or ND and put on west division problem solved.

ND would have to be in a division that gave them access to the east coast. ND really is the one team that can deliver Boston, NY, Philly etc.

I still don't understand why Ohio State and Michigan can't be in the same division. The SEC doesn't have any problems putting Auburn/Alabama or Florida/Georgia in the same division. And the Pac-12 doesn't fret over having USC/UCLA or any other long-time rivals in the same division.
