OF COURSE the SEC was bargaining for a 8 team playoff, with no conference championship requirement. Because we need half+ of the field to be SEC teams every year!

"The circumstances have changed, and we need to reconsider the format," Sankey said. "I'm not convinced we need to reconsider the number of teams, and I've been clear that I would have been OK with an eight-team playoff with no conference champion access. That wasn't, if you will, politically tenable within the group. So as we continued to look at the models, we came up with the six-and-six model. But, again, the circumstances have changed in a meaningful way, and my inclination is we need to reexamine the current format."

I question his motives as well, but an eight team playoff would be way better than this 12 team abomination, in my imo 8D .

I agree, but there needs to be some kind of conference champion stipulation. The motive for "no conference champion requirement" by the SEC boss is obvious.

So you want to guarantee the B12 and ACC champs a spot?

I know the SEC is obvious here but the No conference championship thing is the smart overall play for big brand schools imo.

CCG’s are the thing that needs to go away.

I like the idea of conference champions getting in, but only if they meet certain criteria. Like, if the champion lost 3 games, they're out. Or they need to be ranked in the top 15 or something. But if the 6th best champion is ranked #22, they shouldn't be in the playoff.

If the B12 champion is ranked #8, then great - good luck in the playoff. But if they're not really deserving of a spot, keep them out. No conference should be in a better position than the others by rule. They should just be better because they're better.
