Guess UC folks will have to be looking on eBay for a second hand shine box for a couple of years. Funny thing, the P12 schools may be ready to part with theirs for the new ones they’ll be able to afford with 100% membership from go.

John should stop digging. He was kliavkov mouthpiece for the whole thing and just came out looking terrible.

No one is moving back in 5-10 years. Not unless the roof caves in on the money.

Yeah, I was posting the tweet with Kelly's quote not realizing that delusional take was coming along for the ride.

I think Chippy's idea is a good one.

Canzano has been wildly grasping for the "hot take" and the big job since Cowherd left Portland for ESPN. Surprised he even reaches anyone outside the NW (pretty sure most here consider him irrelevant).

I think he's right though. For football, it's fine. Even good to have this much travel and variety.

But i dont see how it works for all the other sports. There will be a lot of pressure to add to the 4 west teams we have now... does this end up being a 24 team conference with 10 west coast and 14 east coast ?
And then we have basically recreated the PAC within the B1G... which is fine imo. But i dont see how this is supposed to work.
I get the impression nobody has really thought this all out. They're just going with the $$$ and tv execs.

The answer is money. No one is giving up 40-50 Mil for regionality. Even if it hurts the olympic sports with travel

Yeah, he was about the most unobjective observer of these events possible. PAC survives and so does his job; PAC dies and so does his job. Not exactly the formula for objective journalism.

Once you’ve paid the cost to charter a plane, the additional fuel cost for another 500 miles is insignificant. LA to Columbus isn’t that much further than Tempe to Seattle. 30-60 min? These are 19-23 year olds that can eat peanuts and nap like it’s nothing on a charter flight.

Yes, there is the timezone/jet-lag component… but they’ll get over it. All kids do.

Arizona St wasn’t taking bus trips to Colorado or Utah to begin with. Aside from each school having a cross-town or cross-state rival, each duopoly of Pac-12 schools were largely nowhere near each other geographically. California is a VERY LONG state. LA and the Bay Area might appear to be close to one another on a small zoomed out Google Map, but that’s not a Columbus to Bloomington commute in reality.

The travel implications are way overblown.

So it's actually closer from Los Angeles to Stanford than I had thought. About a 6-hour drive, according to Google Maps. But you're right. Just looking at it on this map, and you can see the trip to any of the other teams is going to be a lot longer.

As far as jet lag goes, I think they should make it a point to schedule the games so that the eastern teams playing in the west aren't playing too late at night, and the western teams playing in the east aren't playing at noon. Of course, Oregon had no problem with the jet lag and playing at noon when they played in Columbus a couple of years ago.
