Not going to say anything about the point he's trying to make, but what a shitty way to make it. You only watch rivalry games, Joe? Only Ohio State-Michigan is worth playing? Who wants to see Ohio State-Wisonsin.....that's not a rivalry, either.
It's eventually going to be the big 2 and maybe a 3rd confence of most of the middle weights that didn't make it into the big 2I mean. I'm here for conference expansion. If it means more great games against Oregon & Washington and less shitty games against the Youngstown States and Western Kentuckys of the world, sign me up
Wouldn't have minded this 20 years agoSo if the B1G gets rid of divisions and keeps the CG, then The Game could theoretically be played 3x a year (Rivalry week, B1GCG, and expanded playoffs)?
Wow, playing the game 3 times in one season would be like adding tomato AND quinoa to gumbo!!!
Cal is no slouch when it comes to research - think Livermore Labs, think top geological research. Willing to guesstimate that they bring in more than Michigan, let alone Ohio State.Unfortunately, Cal and Stanford figured out too late that football drives the market…..quality football eventually drives the market more…..investment in winning football is what brings the brand value
Cal had everything it needed….huge market, great campus & stadium…….only intermittent success
Stanford probably doesn’t care as the real prize is research…..football is a pimple on the butt to them
Oregon State and Washington State are nice little programs who frequently punched above their weight class…….sorry, the states of Washington and Oregon aren’t big enough to support 2 big time programs each
Ouch. Football spends three times what it takes in, and that doesn't even figure in the new stadium they built that's a quarter full for their Tuesday night games. Some times, a school just needs to admit that it's defeated.Detailed and fairly current.
