The ACC is facing an inevitable fate - blockaded by the B1G and SEC, they have nowhere to go.

If I was them, I'd consider trying to get ahead of the curve for once and beat everyone to the punch and make a 'mega conference' with the best of the Big 12 & Pac-whatever. You'd have a coast to coast conference and at least for a short while be able to pitch the likes of Clemson, Florida State, Oregon, etc. It'd at least be an easier sell to a major network/streaming service and beats the shit out of the CW

There is an old business rule that states “two of shit, is still shit”.

Package them up anyway they want to, the reason these conferences are dying out is mostly because they are composed of low quality brands. I know fans of some of these schools will argue, but they are.

It's 4, 16 team conferences or 14 and then 12 make the playoffs. As close as NFL as they can get. Been saying for a long time. Most schools will never get a championship and won't care because the money is going to flow like wine

The ACC's greatest advantage is it's curse when it comes to expansion.

Anyone who isn't in a dire situation isn't signing the poison pill that is their GOR. Oregon certainly isn't they will at worst join the Big 12 and sit around hoping for a B1G invite.

Also we were promised fireworks today damn it lol...

Basically calling for similar to an nfl model. 4 conferences of 16, champions get the 1-4 slots and each send 2-3 more teams. Group of 5 and independents have a shot for 4 of the slots.
I’ve liked this for a while except the balance between the conferences will be so far from equal and getting worse. The pac and big 12 even combined are all regional brands. The big ten and sec have scooped up all of the national brands. Even FSU and Clemson would be considered regional schools. Clemson just happen to be having their best 10 years in their history right now.

I wonder if this is what an NWA wrestling fan thought in the mid/late 80s when it was clear that the WWF (Big Ten?) and WCW (SEC SEC SEC?) were emerging as more or less national brands on the pro/fake wrestling scene and the old-school territories were dying out....
Listen to any Jim Cornette podcast for 30 minutes, and he will reinforce that this is exactly what they thought. AWA fans too circa 1987.

I think I'd prefer to see this set-up:
2 conferences. 20 teams each, 24 teams each - whatever.
You pick your conference champion however the fuck you want. We'll pick our conference champion however the fuck we want.
Our champions will face off for the championship.
If you aren't in either conference, maybe you can win the Dr. Pepper Challenge or something and get some free tickets to the national championship game.
Otherwise, maybe you can make a mid-major playoffs. Enjoy trying to win the NIT.

That's an interesting idea, almost a traditional MLB model...you use your DH, our pitchers will hit, etc. I think it would only fully work if neither conference played at all until the title game though, like the old days of the World Series. As for the then group of 5/7/8/whatever, they should play for a new class of title...maybe the FMS (football mediocre subdivision) or FSSS (football smaller school subdivision) or FML (football mid-major league) separate from the larger schools. They probably should have been doing so for a while now honestly.

I think that's where things are eventually headed, though I think there's too much money in having a multi-round playoff comprised of B1G and SEC schools to decide things.

ORD is right. If anything, the playoffs will only get bigger.

I wouldn't mind a B1G-PAC mega-conference with an east-west championship game. That could preserve OSU's traditional end of season game with TSUN followed by a Rose-Bowl-esque championship game prior to the playoffs.
