I wonder if this is what an NWA wrestling fan thought in the mid/late 80s when it was clear that the WWF (Big Ten?) and WCW (SEC SEC SEC?) were emerging as more or less national brands on the pro/fake wrestling scene and the old-school territories were dying out....

Wrestling was a bit different in that the NWA champ didn't square off with the WWF champ, but is that where football is going? Basically a conference-less landscape (not today, but eventually) where it's wide-open scheduling and a playoff selection process in the end?

Kinda seems that way, doesn't it?

I know the analogy doesn't fit all the way but there are some similarities I think.

PAC had a conference call meeting this morning. No reports or leaks--yet but the rumour persists the the media deal will be streaming only (Apple tv). Not even the Hallmark channel ponying up? Next few days will be interesting.

Oh, and for those thinking Stanford would be a great add--they (and Berkeley) were part of the demise of the PAC. They are apathetic at best about revenue sports and could just as easily go the Ivy League/D3 route as join another major conference. Hard to see them tolerate the PAC adding schools like Boise and Fresno. Who knows?

Will miss the PAC after dark (sure as hell am not going to pay to stream it though).

Damn. Did they even entertain bids from British Petroleum to air their games on gas station TV? Everyone in North America could at least watch five minutes of a game while filling up their tank.

You kids go on without me. I loved it when Penn State came in and suddenly found out that going through a season with the Bucks, Michigans, and Iowa was not the same yellow brick road as one with Rutgers, Syracuse, WVA, and Pitt. Once Rutgers and Maryland entered, games I wanted to see left. I'll feel even less a fan when our traditional rivals are watered down with the likes of UCLA and the Clampets. SheeeeIt.

Thought they were worth 60-80mil. Turned down 30 (ESPN or Fox a year ago). Really has been a master class in brand mismanagement and arrogance.
