Would these defamation lawsuits against Fox potentially threaten the anticipated post-ESPiN college football playoff era?
No. FOX just completed $1b in share buybacks for fiscal 2022 and authorized another $4b in repurchases for 2023 with the excess cash on the balance sheet. The Dominion lawsuit at worst would cost them $1.6b, and they'll probably move to settle for less to prevent anymore dirty laundry being aired.

Lachlan Murdoch can find the money to pay Dominion from under his dad's couch cushions.

No, the 1.6b is only compensatory damages. Dominion is also asking for punitive damages, which are not capped.

Yeah, there will be no trial; they settled out of court for $787.5M

But they'll probably have to pay Smartmatic at least that amount as well, as they are still facing a defamation trial on the same basic fact pattern, with the same info in the public sphere. Either way, I assume the Fox Sports division and the News division are well insulated enough that this won't have a negative impact on their sports deals.

What about cruises, though?

Think about the level of mismanagement it took for the PAC-12 to drop below the ACC and Big-12 with all those huge west coast media markets. Hate to see it.

Im skeptical that they have fallen behind BXII.
Both failed to get conference network figured out.
Both are/have lost their marquee 2 programs, but i daresay PAC with Oregon, Washington, Stanford, ... is in a better place than OkSt, TTech, Kansas duo, and 30 religious schools in Texas.
There's schools worth raiding in PAC, BXII is now Mountain West in Texas.

It would be hilarious to see Boulder go back to a hollowed out BXII.

You're probably right. Rumors are that the four corners schools are considering a move to the Big-12. Maybe they figure Oregon and Washington are gone, and that they will get a better deal if they move before Oregon and Washington bolt.

Essentially it looks like ESPN/FOX don't care for either and only were willing pay for 1 of the 2. Pac over played their hand by the stupid UCLA song and dance and thought they had all the time in the world to make a decision. Big XII moved first and got the first decent deal they could find, The PACs offers evaporated.

At least that seems what it looks like on the outside. Essentially the TV powers were determined to pay one about the same amount and the other gets stuck holding the bag. PAC moved too slow and hemmed and hawed too much.

I feel like the ones spreading the Big Ten expansion rumors over the last week or so are the Big 12, because they're wetting their collective pants over the idea of the four corners schools joining their conference if the Big Ten blows up the Pac. And the Big Ten doesn't want to be the one to blow up the Pac

I'm also sure Colorado is not jonesing to go back to the conference that they previously ditched for greener pastures...
