Ok, and that's the furthest north school in the Pac 10 going to the furthest south school in the Pac 10.
You say that like 4 of their 9 opponents aren't in the northwest, or that these trips aren't doubled by the nearly identical long hauls to Phoenix for ASU.

1344 - Ari to Ore
1388 - Ari to Ore St
1460 - Ari to Wash St
1622 - Ari to Wash

Pac-10 teams are guaranteed 8 matchups which are further away than Austin-Columbus.

Happy Valley to Minnesota checks in at 1103.

Guess how far it is from Minneapolis to Rutgers? 1201. They are a very viable candidate.

The point is these treks are not done by bus. They fly on the revenue earned by big money sports, and Texas could increase their revenue by adding a lot of value to the profit-heavy BTN.

It is about the same distance to Iowa City as Penn State is to Minny.

What part of DISTANCE DOESN'T MATTER don't you understand? It's Texas - the Big Boy. Texas Tech or Rice or someone much smaller then yes, it would matter. It won't matter with Texas.

If distance doesn't matter then Texas is a shoe-in to join the Big Ten based on everything else you guys have said, right? Like I said, I would love to see Texas join the Big Ten but I don't see it happening. Sorry for having a differing opinion I guess...

No one here is saying Texas is a shoe-in. There's quite a few politicians in the state that would attempt to block that move from the outset.

What people are trying to say here is that Texas is the most logical choice, i.e. the "Dream" choice.

I personally don't think it's going to happen either.

Hello Mr. Exaggeration, nice to meet you. Our goal isn't to counterbalance your extreme viewpoints:

I don't really want to argue this, but athletics-wise the Big 12 has been better in football recently. I really just don't see any way Texas would come to the Big Ten. It would be an unnecessary change.

No, Texas has no incentive to join the Big Ten.
Pointing out the merits of their candidacy is nowhere near the far end of the spectrum: calling it a lock that they will or want to join.

I wish you'd make up your mind.

My mind has always been made up. I would love for Texas to be in the Big Ten, but I don't see them leaving the Big 12. I've merely been trying to express (apparently not in the best way) why I don't think they would leave the Big 12.

I'm gonna call it a day on this one though. Time to move on to bigger and better things. Go Bucks!

Keep in mind that the travel costs to all varsity men's and women's sports by adding Texas would be easily offset by the added revenue Texas would bring to the Big Ten Network ALONE, never mind added conference revenue from a conference championship game, another bowl tie-in, etc.

Distance simply isn't going to be a factor. If low budget/no budget schools in the WAC, Sun Belt and C-USA can handle even larger distances, then an enlarged Big Ten swimming in Uncle Sam's finest dollar bills certainly won't mind having teams take a mere three hour flight to Austin.

Note the distance between BC and Miami in the ACC or in the old Big East for another example of a conference that couldn't/can't use buses for any sport.

The potential of a deal with Texas will rest on other factors, IMO.

JoePa was on SportsCenter last night (I have no idea if it was a re-run of not) talking about how he thought the Big Ten really needed to expand with another east coast team.

No, you old coot, the Big Ten doesn't need to do shit, if you want to expand your recruiting base on the east coast (which, in my opinion, is why he really would like to see another Big Ten team east) than join the Big East you old bastard.

It really pisses me off that the people pushing for this the most vocally act like it would be so great for the Big Ten, but really they just have their self interest in mind. Penn State wants to gain more exposure on the coast, Wisconsin wants to get a shot at Big Ten titles that they don't deserve by not playing in the same division as Ohio State and Michigan.

I guess that is to be expected, but seriously, FUCK THAT. If the Big Ten expands, it should be because they are adding a team that makes the conference better.

I have said this before, but please please please don't add a team just to add a team.

That is all.

I really think that at the end of this, they will not add anyone unless it is Notre Dame. All this talk about other schools is just to get bargaining power.
