I fully expect to get blasted by this because many on here have strong opinions against certain schools for non-business related reasons. And admittedly I am not super knowledgeable about a lot of this so I am just curious something.

Why not go to 20 by adding these 6 teams.

Texas
+ massive recruiting base and population, etc. plus solid football tradition (even if you don't like it)
- yes I know their egos, TV contracts, etc.

Oklahoma
+ historically good football and you kinda have to have them to land UT
- one of the ugliest states in the US in my opinion but whatever

Oklahoma State
+ mullets
- I know, I know they aren't great but just trying to grease the wheels of making things happen and it protects Bedlam.

Notre Dame
+ see some of Texas positives as they seem similar but they also have their own unique benefits
- see Texas negatives, they seem similar but they also have their own unique annoyances

Virginia
+ good academics, good recruiting area, big population base, seems like a sleeper school w/ sports
- i'm sure there are a bunch, not sure

Ga Tech
* no clue but +/- seems similar to UVA

So, like I said this is just a total novice suggestion but in terms of a very strong conference it seems to mark of a lot of boxes to me - sports, recruiting bases, eyeballs, academics, regional considerations, etc.

Go ahead and hammer on me now. I'm sure there are many flaws to the more experienced on this issue.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this board is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

...How’s that?

Hahahaha. Perfect.

I just wanted to get some solid disclaimers in there since I can't make strong arguments.

The map looks logical though.

The Big 20

4 pods

Texas
OU
Okie St
Neb
Iowa

Minn
Wiscy
NW
Illini
Domers

tOSU
TTUN
Sparty
Indiana
Purdue

PSU
Rutgers
Maryland
UVA
Ga Tech

8 regular season games plus 1 non conference game. 4 from your pod, rotating 2 of 5 from the other pod on your side of conference then rotating 1 of 5 from each pod on other side of conference.

4 team Conf Championship taking top team from each pod.

That leaves 16 teams, 8 from each side of conference that play in a guaranteed 3 game “tournament”. So those 16 teams play 3 games. Plus the 8 regular season games for 11 total games. All 11 of those games are agains teams in the Big 20. Plus that non conference game so everyone there plays 12 games.

For the 4 teams in the conference championship they all play 2 games because losers of first round play each other. This gives a clear #1 and #2 being the teams playing in the final. #3 and #4 decided same way. Gives playoff committee excellent data to judge by. So when the NC playoffs expand to 8, etc it makes the selection process better to take 2 teams from the Big.

Only problem I see is the loss of revenue I guess in the 4 teams in the Conf Playoffs only having 11 games played. But from a health standpoint it’s less fatigue headed into the NC playoffs for the #1 and #2 teams.

* I would have regular team stadiums used for the 2 different 8 team tournaments.

Trade Ok State for Kansas and maybe ND for UNC though the last one I'm fine with either way and I'm down with it

I'd rather go back to the old pre-pedster Big Ten. I'm all for just holding at 14 with the possible exception of taking UVA and UNC if the ACC implodes. The only changes that I want to see on the college football landscape is expanding the playoffs to eight games with first round games at higher seeded campus stadiums and for Notre Dame to be forced to go all-in on a conference.

I'd like to see all conferences be 9 teams. Play all the other 8 teams easily. 4 home games and 4 away games, plus 4 out-of-conference games. Easily play 2 "quality" OOC games (home & away), and 2 home games against the Marshalls, Akrons, or Can't-Afford-Underpants Techs.

I'm not sure how the Big Ten would best drop from 14 to 9. Dropping Rutgers and Maryland seems easy enough. Part of me would want to drop the cult, but another part wants to keep our enemies closer. I don't want to drop Nebraska, either. But those may be the next easiest to drop. Finally, I'd say that Northwestern, Purdue, and Michigan State would be next easiest. Maybe Michigan State would be a logical drop (of the remaining 10 teams, they're the most recent addition), but I enjoy the way they troll the skunkbears. Maybe rock-paper-scissors to boot out one of those two.

Another option might be to add 4 teams and split the two into Big Ten A and Big Ten B.

I think about this way more than I should. It'll never happen.

Would not want to separate the research institutions like that. The B1G is as much about research as it is revenue athletics.
