With Justin Timberlake pushing them, Memphis is pretty much a lock for the Big 12.

So in other words: a desperate looking rush jobBig 12 reportedly prefers expansion to be settled before start of season
Such a timeline would also be beneficial for any incoming teams.
If the expansion teams are indeed announced before the season, that conceivably would give the new schools a chance to begin playing in the conference in 2017. For now, the league is in the process of contemplating how it will decide participants for its championship game that has been reinstated for 2017.

The AAC kicks off its Media Days Monday, and expansion will no doubt dominate the conversation during the two-day event.

You have to have teams someone wants to watch, programs you can sell to advertisers. It's a huge drop in the football market potential from Oklahoma and Texas to Baylor and TCU, and a jump off a cliff to Kansas. Look around and there simply aren't anymore big state schools that aren't already in a conference. Unless they can wrest Arkansas or aTm away from the SEC, they have nothing to choose from that adds market value - maybe BYU or Colorado State... but Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston, SMU aren't going to do it.Does anyone else think that the B12 is merely saying they are going to expand as a negotiating tactic to have ESPN and FOX pay more money for their existing rights? I don't think the B12 wants to add anyone. But evidently, the existing contract bumps network payments by something like 25 million per school per year if the B12 expands. So, to exploit this provision, they say they are adding 4 schools, which would cost the networks 100 million/year. The networks squeal, and the B12 offers to forego expansion for only 50 million/year.
What a [Mark May]show happening in the Big XII - adding 4 non-P5 teams! This seems like a disaster in the making for the long-term.
1) ESPN/Fox are balking at pro-rata increases for lower teams
2) They are adding Houston, a market they already have
3) The choices are terrible.
If all conferences go to 16 then it looks like the BXII will be the loser. Texas, OU and a few others would head to the Pac. Maybe the Big 10 picks up KU and then one somewhere out east to balance things. Just no ISU or KSU. I get that foot ball dominates right now, but KU would be a phenomenal insurance policy. You never know what will happen to football given the research into CTE. I mean if we aren't getting a blue blood football program such as OU/UT or adding a major market with mega $$$$ then the KU insurance policy is a decent play.

Nonsense. Ohio State wins more than half their games.Being back in Kansas I have asked Jayhawk fans about their thoughts on joining the B1G. They like it for BBall but think Ohio State runs the B1G like Texas runs the Big XII.
I help them see the light with FAX and EVIDENTS!!!! though.
