Duke wouldn't be left out in the cold. SEC would take them if North Carolina were off the table. They'd love to have another basketball blue blood in the conference and they desperately want a presence in North Carolina.

I've only driven thru Nashville, stayed overnight a few times, but from what I saw, it was all traffic-cone orange.

That's to be expected, but, as I've said, the TV market would still have to carry the Big Ten network. And a few more down years by Tennecheat and maybe a couple of mediocre/good seasons from Vandy and that market will shift....

But as Muck stated and as I've hinted at, Vandy would be an academic addition.

It doesn't 'have' to unless there is a large enough group of locals pushing for it. Do you see a massive number of central Tennesseans clamoring to see Ohio State vs Vandy games?

you only go after Vandy if you are failing hard to get #20

Tv Markets:

Kansas gets Denver market: Denver > Nashville
BC = Boston, Boston > Nashville
Missouri = St. Louis > Nashville

I would think those are prob 3 schools they would look at if they got to 20

they would take NC St/Va Tech not just duke, and I don't seem them going past 16, it's almost all about football for them, no way they take Duke without taking UNC

Dook and probably NC State and destined to stay in whatever ACC/Big East conference is left after this expansion round.

Kansas doesn't bring Denver. Denver is also a pro sports town. Colorado and Oklahoma do and Nebraska did. And I'm glad you can pick cities that are bigger than Nashville - that's not my point.

I could easily see BC, but the only way BC is in the equation is if NoSuch Dame is, which they currently aren't. And Mizzou is off the table as well - they won't leave the SEC now.

Is Vanderbilt even the most popular college team in their own city? I was in Nashville this past fall and you would hardly know they existed. Saying they would bring TV sets is like saying that Northwestern is responsible for Big Ten viewership in Chicago. The only positive that would come from adding Vanderbilt would be Frosted Tips moving his family again once he found himself annexed back into B1G country.

BC is a glorified A-10 school.

Forget about Mizzou not coming - they shouldn't be invited. They showed their ass before the Nebraska invite went out, and with the FOIA stunt they pulled that led to the uncovering of the tattoo scandal, Ohio State has every reason in the world to crush any talk of Mizzou getting an invite should somebody even bring up the topic.

I had forgotten about that. Anyone still have any links to articles when it was filed?

This isn't about football or basketball. It's about TV sets and CIC membership.

Vandy would add a foothold in SEC country for TV sets and would be an impressive add to the CIC. Vandy is very much a logical possibility, it just may not be a realistic one.

Vandy... Chuckle. Poor man's GT for what the B1G is looking for. I can't imagine a scenario where they are involved.

Couldn't find any articles... it was a rumor posted in the mill by LordJeffBuck that I've decided I'm running with. :tongue2:

Rumor Mill thread: The "Unrelated Legal Issue"

I could have swore that I saw this floated by a beat reporter on Twitter at some point too. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

Even if I'm full of [Mark May] and Missouri didn't make such a request of Ohio State, the desperation and petulance they showed in that round of expansion leading up to Nebraska's invitation was unbecoming of a Big Ten institution in my IMO.
