2 - LA (PAC)
3 - Chicago (Check)
4 - Philadelphia (Check)
5 - Dallas-Ft.Worth (BIG XII)
6 - San Fran (PAC)
7 - Boston (no one)
8 - Atlanta (SEC/ACC)
9 - Washington DC (Check)
10 - Houston (BIG XII)

So, lets see here.. B1G has 4 of the top ten markets... and 3 of the top 4, Pac has 2, BigXII has 2, SEC has 1.. more like a half.. and ACC 1 (or the other half)....

If PBC is right that Tejas wants "in"... make that 6 of the top 10...

Long term:
He who has the gold makes the rules....

Just sayin

This is a good point. People talk about how college football and Rutgers football is not big in NYC. Having teams like UC and South Florida coming into town does not bring great interest. You bring in teams like OSU, Nebraska and Michigan and that interest in college football might grow.
Yeah, I was listening to the radio yesterday, 97.1, and some woman from New Jersey called in and said essentially the same thing... It's not about Rutgers (and she's a Rutgers alum) it's all about who Rutgers will be playing. She went so far as to say if/when Ohio State comes to town they'll have to put the game in the Medowlands to accommodate the number of tickets alumni in NYC would probably buy up.

I can believe that.... I mean... NYB is there in NY.... I suspect he'd be willing to go see the good guys play Rutgers... and... maybe he'd even tune into the BTN.... from time to time...

Just by having a team in the area/state, the Big Ten network is added to the basic cable package of that region.

That is not necessarily true, that will have to be negotiated before these cable companies try to pass on this expense to their subscribers. It isn't clear the Big Ten will have the leverage to pull this off, obviously they believe that they can.

There's no team in Boston that anyone will care about, least of all BC. Think we've done well for ourselves.

How can you tell if someone goes to Boston College?

They'll tell you in the first 15 seconds.

Missouri TODAY is a better program than either Rutgers or Maryland. But how long will that last, and what have they done, historically?

This is the same Missouri team that Nebraska once beat 25 straight years. The same Missouri team that boasts just one conference championship in the past 50 years. The same team that's ten games under .500 in the past 25 years. Yes, this is also the same team that boasts an 81-47 record over the past decade, far better than Rutgers' 66-58 mark and Maryland's 67-58 records, but this is also the best stretch of Mizzou football since the Dan Devine Era.

And let's not forget that the architect of that recent success, one Gary Wilhelm Pinkel, will be "retiring" at season's end, according to the hellhole that is the Missouri forum. If Pinkel does hit the bricks, is Missouri still a commodity, or are they one coaching move away from going back to football cannon fodder? Kansas State after Snyder retired seems more likely.

God, I hope so. That's 20 mins from my job in midtown.

wtf are you talking about ? It's called "home and home" to signify each team gets a home game. I suppose it's no big deal if one calls it "home and away"....but the common term is "home and home" and that is the term used by the Maryland officials during their press conference yesterday

I'm not sure I'd call a 56-23 loss a "near win"

So you think this is something that Delany hasn't thoroughly researched before making these moves?

:slappy:

We'll be there. Count on it. Delany gambles only with house money.

Re: Meyer's pessimism is both wholly earned and utterly frightening. This is not one of the all-time great Ohio State teams, but they are far better than any of their conference brethren even now; it makes me think that, if Meyer does not once again burn out his psyche on a hotel-room carpet, the Buckeyes will dominate the Big Ten for at least the remainder of the decade. With the possible exception of an aberrant Michigan or Wisconsin squad here or there, I cannot see anyone consistently challenging them.

YES, I like his thinking here.
